  1. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

It is not geography. It is the “system” within that Geographical location. Standards. If we classify this as “concerns of foreign parts” well that wouldn’t be very informative as Japanese and German parts are “foreign.” Again, this is not about Chinese people....its about the Chinese...
  2. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

My point is, how do they conclude the transmission caused that fire? It’s like the “runaway Prius” that killed the old lady years ago. There was ZERO evidence that the pedal malfunctioned or the throttle body stayed “stuck open.” Then Toyota issued a recall to shorten the pedal or cut a hole...
  3. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

"...heated 'debris' could contact ignition sources and cause a fire." This isn't even a known issue or documented case. Manufacturers put out the warning to make sure people don't [email protected] and not come in for the recall. It's like when Toyota told everyone the pedal recall may cause your...
  4. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

I disagree. Chinese machining standards may have improved, but their metallurgy methods and standards for forging and casting still sucks. There is a great demo online somewhere where an engineer breaks a cast iron bar made in USA vs a cast iron bar made in China. The results will shock you...
  5. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Yeah, but chances are you would still be able to limp your way back home in a Jeep. Jeep transmission or drivetrain issues hardly ever leave their owners stranded. They usually have grinding into gear or noisy transmission issues. I rarely hear about a Jeep manual transmission not bringing an...
  6. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

This is a tricky topic, it really is. Getrag better have their act together on this one....otherwise, adios! Toyota, Nissan, and BMW utilized their gearboxes and had great success. When Getrag began making crap boxes 2003+, everyone started looking at ZF boxes. What happened? Outsourcing...
  7. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

My dad was a machinist for 27yrs. His tools were all either; Mitotoyo, Sunnen, Helios, and/or Starrett. I never saw a single tool he had that was made in China. They either had; USA, Germany, or Japan stamped on them. So I asked him why? His response was, “...precision.”
  8. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Same here. Im guessing it’s more about sales quantity therefore makes more sense to buy cheaper transmission. For example, if manual transmission Bronco sales accounted For 70% of their sales....then im sure a USA or German made transmission would be choice. However, Ford probably did some...
  9. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

I understand what you are saying, but Ford is the customer in this arena....not Getrag. When Ford decides who to choose as their transmission supplier, you bet they can define THEIR OWN STRATEGY! This means deciding whether or not they want to go with a unit manufactured in China for their 4x4.
  10. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

This isn’t a racial topic, stop trying to push it in that direction. This is a legitimate concern for some of us who work hard for our DOLLAR. If Ford wants $50k+ from us, they better offer a $50k+ quality car. Period.
  11. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

110% correct sir. Quality Control is the cornerstone of any successful business.
  12. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Taking note of the fourth bullet point.
  13. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

I agree, most do have manufacturing plants in China. My point is based on statistics and how several of those companies have opted out of China manufacturing for quality concerns....would you feel confident in a critical component like a transmission being made in a factory with below average...
  14. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

I use USA, Japan, and Germany as examples because those countries manufacturing standards are synonymous for being generally high—er quality than say China, Taiwan, Etc... Name me one automotive brand that is HISTORICALLY known for its high performance and reliability made outside of the “Top...
  15. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

This thread has 3000+ views for a reason.... Anyone who believes this isn’t a legitimate concern is nuts. Anyhow, it’s your money folks, do as you wish with it.
  16. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Not the same transmission, the quality standards of raw materials. Chinese sourced and/or forged metals are nowhere near the quality of USA, Japanese, or German. THIS is why Getrag sent their manufacturing for this transmission to China....to offer a cheaper product to oem’s. We know this...
  17. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Consider this... The 93-98 Toyota Supra 6spd came equipped with a GERMAN MADE Getrag V160 manual transmission. That transmission is consistently known for handling crazy power and torque with rare issues only stemming from user error(s). The Ford Mustang (non-Shelby) comes equipped with a...
  18. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Look, im sure we all want the Bronco to succeed....it really is looking to be a badass rig! I want one! However, I have owned quality vehicles and vehicles with US made parts....there is a HUGE difference vs. Chinese-made stuff.
  19. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

Usually when they say that....they are talking about smaller components....less critical components, NOT complete transmission assembly. Heck, even the McLaren’s have Chinese-made seat brackets....however, I promise you won’t see a Chinese-made crankshaft or differential in a McLaren.
  20. Getrag Transmission: German or Chinese?

I know the Santa Fe is Korean made, my point was that its not quality. The auto Bronco should be a hit, but that manual will be problematic....I can guarantee it.
