Your design is awesome and well put together. I spent $200 on one of the aluminum ones that go all the way across the dash that was up here a couple weeks ago, so that most likely be my long term solution, but I love any 3D printed DIY solutions so I just had to give this a try.
Test run so far with some cool galaxy black PLA I have. The speckles in it really hides the layer lines. Need to reorient the print as the supports didn’t come off the top very easily. Another 8 hour print here we go!
I may do a modification of the design to make it easier to print quickly.....
ABS works, but PETG is typically a better product to print and it's just easier to work with. PETG should hold up over time. I have used some PLA stuff on car mounts in my car, haven't had warping yet, but then again they aren't in direct sunlight.
This is amazing. For those that don't have a 3D printer, I have one and an Etsy account that I could print them for people at my cost for printing them. I'll post something once I get time. I would just print the part, you would be required to assemble and purchase your own rail.
Both OP’s and Thomas1984’s setups are awesome. I got the optional Badlands 33” beadlocks, I wonder if I’ll be able to throw some 35” Nittos on those? Probably going to powder coat the beadlock ring black.
I bought the upgraded beadlocks for the badlands with this same exact idea. I’m not sure how long I’ll drive on them, but I wanted to have beadlocks for only $995 more when I know they’re worth $2000-$3000 in the market for good beadlocks.
The fact that those "bad" tops are piled up at dirt mountain is disturbing. I'm pretty sure I'd buy one of those bad hard tops from Wabasto for 1/2 the price. It's just for winter driving anyway, who cares how good it looks.
I agree with all the sentiment on this post and agree that Ford changing the rules in the middle of the game is a really crappy deal.
However, I think we have to remember why there is an issue too, they introduced a brand new, hot vehicle, in the middle of a pandemic. I don’t think Ford could...
