Mine looked the same but I did not have issues with them going into the slot. If I remember correctly, I did not keep pushing on the stud once it was started as it was going into the blind nut.
With your Bronco (Badlands) build can you give an approximate overall height to the top of the rack measuring from the ground? I like the clean look of this rack. Hoping too that it is a fairly quiet rack unloaded for day-to-day driving.
I too have issues with the tape, not thick enough to stick to trim. I had to wedge a bit of double sided tape at back to help secure. Don't know how it will hold up long term. I did not have an issue with th harness clip.
