Those that think the Defender just can not cut it as an off-roader, check out the editors of Expedition Portal and their podcast on the Defender. Unlike many here posting, he has extensive time off-roading, not just Overlanding (circumnavigated world 3 times). He also has extensive time driving...
I watch a few really good Savagegeese reviews (which I think are excellent) and they talked about a tipping point with the XC80 Volvo, and to some extent with the new Landrover Defender. Their review of the Ford Explorer is illuminating, and also a bit worrisome about Ford in general and the...
I thought I read somewhere that the Bronco will not get all the 360 features you can get on other vehicles like the Escape and Explorer. I think the Bronco is planned to get a watered-down version, but does anyone know why? My Wrangler is all over the highway, and I am pretty sure the Bronco...
I agree and that would be my build as well with the 18" wheels, which only comes with the P300. I am also ruling it out like you, but in addition all you said, I worry about the scarce dealer network.
I have a JKU and find the interior very cheap, and it seems like the Bronco will be more...
This seems like a pretty honest assessment. I do worry about the smaller engine in the Defender and the wheels that are not the 17-inch. How did you find the interior compared to the JLU.
I am getting a Bronco, but currently in a JKU, with almost 100k and no major problems. However, the interior build for the cost is pretty cheap. I think the JL improved the interior a but, but I hope the Bronco is a step above.
I currently drive a JKU with steel bumpers (AEV as part of the Backcountry Package) and wonder about the degree to which the lack of a crumpling bumper makes the Jeep even less safe (current safety rating, I think, is just 1 star). I suppose with a steel bumper any impact will transfer all...
Ford said that the MGV in the Bronco is an "industry-first" which might just be hype. I don't know if Ford is the first in using it for a car interior, or that this type of MGV material is the first, or both. If the former, then does anyone know where it was used before.
I know enough about...
You make a lot of good points, and I believe there is a chance it will be more reliable than previous models. I am looking forward to the many head to head comparison tests.
I appreciate your warning, but I am pretty sure I will not be getting the new Defender unless the ride and interior of the Bronco are really disappointing, which I doubt. And even I do applaud the balance they struck between comfort and capability, and their utilitarian but sophisticated...
