I am not used to fast paced driving off road but is that level of rattle normal? It seemed like a lot which makes me concerned about long term build quality. I had a miata that rattled like that and it drove me nuts.

yeah thats because the 6 is a hybrid. The mpg difference between the two is going to be negligible based on the bronco sport mpg though. You are Correct though that the brand has a terrible rep. Honestly Ford has not been doing a lot better but their parts are at least cheaper to fix.
