Contact your dealer again. They should be aware of a pin fit issue in a wire harness connector that causes multiple issues. My Bronco had the same messages as yours. It also causes brake light malfunctions.

Thanks for all of the good info. I tow a couple of motorcycles every now and then and just prefer to have the extra braking. I also had to add the controller to my F150 that came with the towing package. Thanks for the schematic.

Does anybody know if the tow package includes the trailer brake controller or is it considered an accessory?

I work at a Ford dealership and have a Bronco ordered for myself. I checked with our GM after reading about this. My VIN has not been assigned but one of our service loaners has been assigned. I hope to see mine soon. We still won't know anything about build scheduling until May.
