4 Door OBX here. Upgraded wheels from the 18” to 17” KMC Roswells, added 285/70 AT tires, swapped the body color standard flares for Ford Sas flares, and an RC spare tire reinforcing mount but otherwise stock. Oh and I peeled off the OBX stickers. I like the tires to be chunky but not gigantic...
Read comments on here from people saying they had issues with that, e.g. sagging and flex with larger wheels and tires. Or maybe I'm not recalling it right. In any event $200 seems like cheap insurance.
Seemed like a good idea. Have heard Jeep people have issues with sagging tailgates when they mount much larger and heavier tires to the tailgate mount.
Yes... Waiting on Sas flares but the wheels and tires are mounted. Plus RC spare spacer and reinforcement kit.
These are Toyo AT3 285/70r17s. On KMC Roswell rims, zero offset.
I put KMC Roswells on my OBX with 285/70 R17 Toyo AT3 tires. Had to remove crash bars to avoid rubbing. Only issue I had was tire place underinflated them. Once I added 5psi to each tire, it rode beautifully. I have slimmer bars on order.
Thank you very much for this tip! My new OBX had clearance but I felt better tying the hose back with a heavy zip tie. I sent the pics and info to my dealer so they can add this to the PDI. I've added a couple pics I hope help to orient people. The first is the general area where the hose is...
Waiting on the 17” wheels from KMC. Read stuff here (BTW love this Forum) and talked to wheel and tire shop guy who looked at my Bronco and agreed the wheel/tire combo will fit without any mods. When they get installed in a couple weeks I will post with pics. According to the tire size app, the...
I have the same issue. Ordered 17" KMC Roswell wheels and 285/70 r17 tires for them which will give the desired chunky look with no need for any other mods.
I ordered an OBX, non-SAS using the configurator, and here were the images on the website (below). The tires look super chunky online, right? I took delivery, and the real OBX with 18” wheels has substantially narrower tires than shown (see my pics below). I am upgrading to 285/70-R17 with 17”...
Don't know if it helps, but I deleted my hardtop, figured if I had to have it I could always order one later once the bugs were worked out. I test drove a soft top and thought the noise level was acceptable. I've had convertibles before though.
