It will be interesting to see the size of the rear pods compared to the factory pieces. The anesthetic isn't too bad; I like the more understated look compared to some of the Jeep/marine pods from companies like DS18. If they're not too bulky and/or grossly expensive I'd consider giving them a shot.

How do you have it all wired to positive and ground? Are any of the fuses missing or blown?

This would be my choice. There are refurbished units on Amazon for $250, which is pretty darn compelling for 8 channels of amplification and DSP. I have no idea how reliable they are but it seems like an option at least worthy of consideration.

Great River Roadhouse is awesome. Did you try the Gordoni? It's a bit rich but it sure is interesting. I'm definitely more interested in the northern portion of the TWAT but the southwest corner of Wisconsin does have some great views and fun roads.

A lot of folks mod these with a pressure switch so it'll turn off if it's running but not connected to anything. It helps protect the compressor from excess wear but it's also is a convenience feature. There are a bunch of videos on the process that can explain it a lot better than I ever could...
