Yeah, it’s pretty crazy. I’ve heard several stories lately since sharing this. It will be interesting what comes from the local news story after tonight.

you’re welcome. We went through everything with several Apple associates and a supervisor. Police assisted. I was lucky it fell off when it did. And 3 days later, the device was erased from my items detected because it was destroyed. Not everyone will be as lucky.

Went through the steps to rule that out with Apple (each family member has AirPods) and that wasn’t it, but yes in some cases AirPods can give a similar alert and can be fixed. When that rep said “oh no, yep this is what we were afraid of…” not gonna lie…that’s when I kinda lost it.

It can pick up someone’s AirTag, yes, and if someone’s AirPods are on Bluetooth, they show up in your Bluetooth list. An AirTag is used to locate. That’s how it all works. Again, Apple confirmed, police confirmed, the Find My iPhone app confirmed what it was.
