Lock washer won’t help. You need a fender washer to spread the load when tightened and to keep it flat, that way it doesn’t catch the edge of the screw and push it away. ✌️

I've been wondering the same thing. The team that modified this for the Fire use definitely doesn't need a convertible SUV, so I'm assuming they bolted it directly through the hardtop. Looks great like that, but obviously we would loose functionality of removable panels if we did the same.

I've done it with my 4 door many times, very secure, no problem ✌ I'll see if I have a photo to attach of it. Here's one with front and mid on, but i've done it in every configuration. It turns the Bronco into a pickup truck :LOL:
