First time mine was rained on last year with the top down, I noticed the jack compartment never really drained and dried out. So I had propped it open and all was well. This year I kinda forgot about that, and I am immediately regretting it. It sat in the garage for a week after a good rain...
That setup puts my budget hoist to shame. Nice project - thanks for sharing.
As long as all the parts including the mounting hardware are rated for overhead lifting, Iād sign off on it. If you are using wood screws/lag bolts, consider a through-bolt with nut on the back of the structure. Or...
Typically l like motorboating with a topless rack, but in this case I will just need to rest a kayak or 2 on the rack. Itās important that the bikini top is not damaged, for those rare days that itās in place.
In my mind, the view from the front should be awesome, with big headlights mounted on...
Way cool. We donāt get much storage space off the lot so this would be handy, but only with the top closed! I remember I almost bought a ā96 F-150 with a rigid shelf storage system like that.
I have been wondering what these are for since I first installed mine last summer! This welded boss is only on the front doors of the 4-door kit I think, since I donāt see it in the 2-door pictures. The instruction manual actually took the time to illustrate these features, but never explains...
Very nice. Can that Rampage top come completely off and store on-board under the tonneau?
I am running tube doors all summer, factory soft top removed, with the Ford tonneau. I bought a cheap bimini top on Ebay, for the unexpected rain shower, but keep it folded up in the back most days...
As clean of an install as the hidden mount is, these drawbacks are what have kept me waiting to see what else comes out. Glad to see you sharing what you have come up with.
Even with the draft design I made for a front hitch receiver for my removable winch, I ran into access issues for the hitch...
You should have gotten a pack of stamped sheet metal shims for each door, powdercoated black to match the tube doors. They are easier to use than washers, since the holes are slotted. You dont have to completely remove the hinge mounting bolts to insert them. Not much info on them, and I had...
I didnāt know theft of lights was a thing, but if you covered the bolt heads and nuts with epoxy or RTV it would add a level of deterrence and confusion to anyone looking to unbolt them.
My rural town coats the backs of street signs and signposts with grease as a deterrent to vandals. That...
You got me excited that this might be a rugged receiver to mount my removable 12,000 lb winch for recovery use. Obviously, this is a different product, but good for those who have installed a winch bracket and want to add racks and accessories to the front.
I hate the straps too. Iāll be fiddling with my summer setup soon, and hoping to share the results.
My concerns are rain pooling in the sagging soft tonneau. And security.
The flexible option will be a mesh of cables under the Ford tonneau. This could be tensioned and provide a tighter seal...
Iāve been on that bandwagon hoping for a diesel for too long now. After test driving the Wrangler diesel I almost bought one, right before the Bronco was finally announced. I couldnt wait any longer for a Ford diesel option, so got the 2021. I can honestly say getting 20mpg with the 2.3, with...
Agree completely. Michael Shellenbergerās book, Apocalypse Never, does a great job proving the conflicts of interest and power plays between the govāt and interests of private energy companies.
Iāve been using the stock 12V socket in the rear (and in the console) to successfully reinflate the tires from 20Psi to stock pressures. This was done on a hot day after wheeling in the sand. Never blew a fuse. I am using an older āTruck Airā inflator, but not sure itās amp rating. FWIW. Try...
That ZXR12000 and the HFT hitch mount is what I have been using on my Bronco. Also used the heaviest gauge booster cables with Anderson connectors to power it, like Mlarv did.
Iāve dragged a boulder on the ground, pulled a broken 1,200 lb trailer out of the woods, but still hesitant to find out...
Very cool build. Iām interested in a design where the winch hitch mount also fits the rear hitch receiver, to be more versatile. Iāve done some 3D modelling but gotten to busy to fab a prototype.
Nice idea with that kit, and well documented . I wanted to do this with my hitch-mounted 12,000lb winch setup, and mount it rigidly to a front receiver when I need it. There are no front receiver kits yet, so this might be the only removable front winch option.
I kinda made one of these...
FWIW, My transmission temps once peaked up to 242 degrees ā and you could smell it ā driving in loose dune sand last summer. It was probably 80 degrees outside. That was alarming for me, but I rarely run it that hard. In fact, I found that crawling at a lower speed and letting the transmission...
