  1. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Interesting enough, my dealership where I bought the vehicle was nice enough to have a mechanic call me to talk through this problem. They told me the explanation of the dealership in Moab is completely impossible and they told me I should drive the vehicle for 45-60 minutes in town before I get...
  2. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

As of now, the motor is working perfectly according to the dealership. My understanding from the owners manual and everything I could find suggests that the fail-safe programming the bronco has now basically prevents any heat damage. After the engine overheats, the cylinders alternate and...
  3. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Flip had a similar explanation. I really do hope this is correct, because it's a very simple fix, I'm just surprised that a transmission coolant inlet hose would just "pop off" on a totally healthy Bronco. On the other hand, if the coolant wasn't being circulated and the engine and...
  4. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

While this makes sense to me, the dealership told me that with this hose being disconnected, the coolant reservoir would completely drain. Flip's theory does make sense though, because as everything cools the pressure changes. That high pressure could have kept it from draining and the low...
  5. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Ok. Well, worst case scenario I'll have another weekend adventure. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
  6. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

We made sure we were talking about the same tank, by position, color, and what is on the cap. The dealership service rep says that tank that was full past the max line was 100% empty when he checked it.
  7. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Flip, what do you think about this? I just called the dealership again and I told them I am 100% sure that the coolant in the reservoir was totally full. They told me that when they checked it (so three full days later) that the coolant reservoir was totally empty. They said that when the...
  8. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

It is actually what I want to be true. A cheap and easy fix with no waiting for parts. So that’s great. I just don’t want to have it overheat again 30 miles outside of Moab. And it seems like the built in failsafe is meant to prevent component damage. So fingers crossed
  9. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Good idea. Yes, they added coolant. I'll probably bring coolant with me and the tools I need. I'm trying to find a diagram that will show me exactly what hose they are saying was disconnected. I know that engine coolant sometimes also cools the transmission, but I'm not that familiar with...
  10. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

So I don't think you've read through the back and forth on here, but if you have, forgive me for repeating this. The Bronco overheated on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. I checked the coolant and the tank was filled above the max line. The heater was blowing cold air. We let it sit...
  11. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

But from the time it first overheated to the time I got it to the pavement was a period of 3 hours. And when I got it to the pavement, the coolant tank was 100% full, 3 hours after the first overheating. So if the hose is the problem, then that means it leaked the coolant out of the engine...
  12. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Hey Everyone who is still following this. I'm hoping that maybe you can help me understand what is going on. So in the bronco there is a coolant reservoir/tank. When my Bronco overheated, that coolant reservoir was completely full, above the max. It was also completely cold even though...
  13. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

I'll admit I'm not familiar with this problem and I've never worked on this problem. But is this a common thing to have happen on an almost brand new car? Would this mean I got a defective part or is this something that is caused by going over a bump or something?
  14. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

Oh, got it. And if the impeller had broken off, wouldn't there be some sign of that? Leaks or steam or something?
  15. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

i don't have the car with me now because it's at a dealership about 200 miles away, but looking at pictures of the impeller now, based on my memory, that all looked totally fine. Everything was sealed up perfectly with no steam or smoke or any leaks at all.
  16. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

All of the belts were intact. I guess it's possible I missed something. We'll see once the dealership can get to it.
  17. UPDATE: Great day in Moab until my Bronco broke down (Overheating)

At first the fan was freaking out, and then the coolant temp gauge went up to maximum, and then the warning message popped up. Then we would let it sit for a while, and then drive for a while. And it started doing the failsafe thing with the cylinder alternation, and that was pretty cool...
