It was a valve lifter ticking noise. It did increase with speed. They never did diagnose what the actual problem was except that there were significant metal shavings in the oil filter and highly likely we caught it just in time before failure. Good idea to take yours in to have it checked...
Hi Tim, I'm post #20 that was referenced with the ticking sound. Your issue sounds very similar to mine although my engine was a 12/21 build. Best bet is to take it into your dealer to be safe. You can even show them my service order if you'd like. They replaced my engine within 2 weeks time...
I think I may have been the first on the engine failure thread to mention the valve ticking (pg 248) From what Iām hearing from service, this ticking may be preceding eventual failure.
Yes, I passed this along last week when they put the new one in. The engine didnāt fail but was on the road there. I took it in with āvalve tickingā noise. Diagnosis was inconclusive and they replaced the engine. As you can see from the service report, metal shavings were found in my oil...
I may have missed it but I have been going through this thread and there's mention of extending the warranty of failed engines but has anyone actually had it extended?
Wasnāt sure if I should post since it didnāt actually āfailā but was replaced. Maybe an * or something?
I can guesstimate the mileage. It just rolled over to 4K when I took it back when the engine came in, so 4003.
It was right under 4K. It was just a ticking that you could hear mostly when idling but would get faster when you revved it. Ran great besides that. The service guy originally thought it sounded like a bad valve header. Next thing I know is they that theyāve ordered a new engine. Said it...
Just recently took mine for service for "valve ticking" that I had since delivery late Jan. Got the call that diagnostic was undetermined so Ford said easier to just replace entire engine. Just took a week to get new one shipped in and it's being changed out now. I may have dodged a bullet...
