Houston here as well - had a 2016 Tacoma 4x4, 2017 and 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
Can't wait for the Bronco to arrive. Trips to New Mexico and Colorado await!
I have a feeling that things will not be that easy. I specifically asked if I could just build and order two in December, see which spec I like better and take it - leaving the other behind. My rep indicated that there will be some tracking system in place by Ford. It really sounds like they are...
I didn't ask if there was a timeline associated with this dealer change. My assumption is that you must lock in your dealer in December when you place the actual order.
So I just spoke to my local rep. I originally reserved a Wildtrak and expressed my desire to change to a badlands.
She called and read me word for word the email she received from her Ford rep/contact/whatever you call them.

My wife is the HR Director for Team Gillman. Mr. Gillman put me in contact with Tommie Vaughn and that's who I am going through. I think your best bet for pricing is x-plan.
Nice - what dealer did you go through.
I just talked to my rep and she (yes she) suggested that if I want to deviate from my original model reservation - i.e. go from wildtrak to a badland to place a new reservation for the correct one. I took her advice, and I'm just going to maintain the two...
I'm seriously considering the dual tops. I love the hardtop during the summer and trips, but October to April - softtop might be nice . . . or a bikini top aftermarket.
I'm from Texas as well and I originally ordered the Wildtrak but will be switching to the Badlands for a couple of reasons.
1) Badlands comes with armor and steel bumpers - Wildtrak does not
2) Badlands comes with a couple more drive modes -
3) Wildtrak doesn't advertise that it has drain plugs...
