Thanks Silver-Bolt. Since that post I had the axle changed out, and the problem persisted. I believe this is more of an issue with the differential than with the axle itself. Ford apparently opened a "case" about six months ago on it, but I've never heard anything from them. Dealer would only...
Did you ever confirm anything with this or did it stop? I too have an oil smell, particularly at idle or stop and go traffic. Iām assuming itās the catch can but donāt know if thereās a solution. I checked all the hose connections and the catch can is growled down like an SOBā¦.
Thanks V1Rotate. The noise is a cyclic clicking or thumping only in 4WD when the front axle is being driven. I replaced the axle already but still have it, so I'm not sure if it's just the shaft/CV angle (my Eibach set was installed by a shop at 'factory' setting, so maybe it is at the top of...
If you are really concerned I would recommend picking up an inclinometer and checking the actual angle. No offense to V1Rotate but it's tough to get an accurate measurement using a picture as there's a lot of variation into setting that baseline based on the picture (I tried that initially with...
The photos show what I found in my catch can today changing the oil. Last two oil changes there was only about 1/8 to 1/4" of actual oil in the bottom of the can. This time as you can see it was about 2/3 full with fluid, seemed like water (thought I smelled fuel but I think it is going to...
Well, there currently isn't one. I took it to the dealer initially who said it was the axle due to the lift, and wasn't covered. They recommended replacing the axle, but I didn't want to use them because I haven't had good luck with them in the past. I ordered the axle and had it replaced...
Unfortunately no. So I'm sort of stuck dealing with this unless Ford discovers some sort of recall-type issue with the suspension or differential. I've read few here and there about surprise differential failures (even without modifications), but I don't know there's been enough occurrence to...
While I agree, Ford does advertise it can be lifted on the non-Sas models (and the 'lift me baby' messaging on the fenderwells), I do believe there is something else going on here. From personal experience after putting the Eibach lift on (non-spacer), I have thumping/clicking from either the...
Thanks. I have the adjustable EIbach coils springs on mine, so an option is to get out there and lower the lift. I measured the driver's side axle shaft angle at about 17 degrees (with vehicle on the ground) and passenger side at around 11, I believe. I also found elsewhere on here there are...
Are all of your noise issues in 2WD? I've posted elsewhere I have a clicking noise from the front as well but only in 4WD. Replaced the front axle shaft due to suspecting the CV joint but didn't fix the issue.
Well that was short lived. Although noise seemed to be gone immediately after the axle replacement, I had it in 4HI on snow covered roads driving to work (actually the "slippery" GOAT mode) and the repetitive clicking/thumping sounds is back. So not sure if it's just the angle of the axle shaft...
If anyone is interested or following I did have the axle replaced with an M190. Noise seems to have stopped. Tech also suspected a CV joint issue but couldnāt pinpoint anything by articulating the axle shaft by hand.
Thanks rtazz17. Visually it looks fully inserted into the differential, although I haven't dropped the spindle or anything out of the way to 'feel' if it is. But that is reassuring your running an even higher ride height without issue.
I'm just going to apologize ahead of time for posting about this topic again, I'm just really looking for the expertise and guidance that exists out there in getting through a problem. I posted elsewhere about having a driver's side axle/CV issue after having a lift installed (Eibach Pro Truck...
I understand this thread is old but the factory service manual does have an 18 degree spec for the CV axle shaft. I'm troubleshooting a supposed CV noise in 4WD after installing a lift.
Update if anyone is still monitoring this one. I took it to the dealer. They said they also heard the noise when turning in 2WD which would point to a CV joint, but I haven't been able to replicate that. They stated it's most likely the CV joint making the noise from being over extended from...
