Yep. It made sense when trucks were pretty much field vehicles that barely left FM roads.
With a combination of regulations and shifting market needs, the price has been driven way up-market and now people often need them to be a jack-of-all-trades. The cost difference between two and four...
Thanks, all good points. I could see this doing some light-duty rural work as well. Could easily carry around chainsaws, gas cans, and tools without getting your interior ruined with fuel, grease, and oil. The lower height would be helpful as well.
What are the advantages of a bed over a cargo area? Would one be hauling anything taller than the roofline? Quicker access without having to open a door? Cleaner passenger area?
Not trying to knock this, just curious how one would sell the Maverick over the Transit Connect, especially given the...
I like mini-trucks, but this is such an odd niche for Ford given that the Transit Connect exists. If the use-case is "urban runabout", why wouldn't one just buy a TC?
The article states they were 1,000 lbs. below the max tow rating, but did say that a load leveler would be helpful. That's probably true of other trucks though.

I'll admit, I like the idea of a Bronco Truck...but I think the Gladiator has been the canary in the coal mine. It's just too compromised.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
If they don't screw up the pricing, I'd be interested in something like this. Given that the Ranger starts at $24k, this means that either the next gen Ranger is going up in price or the Maverick could start lower. Otherwise, what's the point?
I see how Ford got away with the "no-sell" contract on the last Ford GT.
Who cares if someone wants to flip a Bronco? It's a legit question and there's going to be plenty of people out there that will just skip the reservation process and poached a used Bronco. It's not an exclusive...
Right, the die has been cast for the 21 MY. The videos have been shot, the brochures made, B&P released...it's not worth the effort to make a few reservation holders happy. A big chunk of the reservation holders probably aren't 21 MY anyway, so again, it all washes out.
FE might be a little...
I guarantee you he's more concerned with the new F150 not crapping the bed than some rabid Bronco fans for a "limited run" vehicle. Ford knows that they can't even keep up with the demand for the crappy interior Broncos, why put in the effort?
My understanding was that trail maps was essentially a GPS tracker of your activity off road, is that correct?
The Sync 4 does have live info, which is a subscription...pretty standard across the industry now. I think the Mach E had an extensive demo of the connected features.
Exactly, not asking for the same quality as an $80k vehicle. But some of these Bronco builds are in the $60s...so we're not talking Fiesta level either. I mean, it makes sense to have fun, quirky patterns and designs in your budget cars that are typically marketed to teenagers and college...
I wish Ford would have used their Lincoln interior designers. They're capable of understanding color matching in an interior.
See how everything matches nicely? I get that they're trying to do something flashy and fun with this recreational vehicle, but the color mixing is too much.
For those hoping features and surprises will be added soon...the 2021 F150 B&P is a bad precedence for that. Images and options are still missing. I can't get certain interiors to load. It was released two months ago.
Man, there's things I love and things I hate. Sadly, they're all mixed together on the same vehicle on every stinkin' trim. I love the idea of the bronze dash...it's a fresh idea in interior design.
But then they go an totally ruin it with the Grabber blue accents and navy blue arm rests. Paint...
