I have a OBX with Lux and Squatch...it rides just fine on the interstate. And mine is a 2 door so the shorter wheelbase. Taken several all day trips and I love it. Oh and I have the 2.3L. Plenty of power for the highway.
I admit that while following the topic I wasn't following that closely because I had bailed on flat towing the Bronco and picked up a dedicated toad. The point about all the failures that you have seen on the forums so far being tied to the 4A transfer case is enlightening. I love my Squatched...
I didn't. I actually bailed on towing the Bronco and spent $5k on a used Mini Cooper to drag along. I'm a little bummed that I'm not taking the Bronco with us on adventures but I just don't trust that it won't be damaged when I get there.
Squatched 2DR with the 2.3L and I'm happy with it. Both engines are good. I like driving my Bronco a lot so I'd be inclined to go with the one that gets it to me soonest.
I've had trucks roll backwards while off road and it is scary and no fun. Once it stalled and the surface was so soft that clutch out it was sliding...surprisingly the parking brake locking everything up got it stopped (full set of lockers and a driveline parking brake).
The other time no one...
Not able to add anything for the modern manual transmissions, but this is a real issue for some. The Early Broncos had this issue that required removal of the rear driveshaft to be flat towed any significant distance. Apples and oranges but some manuals have this issue.
This was my thought exactly. Document what you do. I'd even voice what step you are doing as you are doing it.
Having said that, I just bought a dedicated toad and will postpone using the Bronco for a few years.
I actually didn't install it as I've decided to go a different route. I decided to not use my Bronco for flat towing and instead picked up a dedicated vehicle for that.
If you decide to go that route, I've got it still boxed up sitting on my bench in the garage. I'd be willing to let go of it...
For me it was waking up several times at night and thinking about a grenaded transmission. I'm working through the logistics of a dedicated toad in lieu of the Bronco. My lack of extra storage space means that isn't real easy. I guess just second thoughts on flat towing.
I have until next...
I'm posting this poll after tossing and turning most of the night. I've bought most of the items needed to set my 2.3L automatic for flat towing. After seeing several posts with people having issues, I wanted to get a feel for how many in our limited forum are having issues versus those that...
Sorry to hear it. I'm planning on outfitting for flat towing but haven't starting the work yet.
Did you run a charge line from your RV to the Bronco to charge the battery while underway? How many miles had you flat towed already?
