I know this is a pretty old post. but most of the easier trails are going to start down in reno or over in Truckee, and down by Kirkwood. not many vehicle trails start up at the lake mostly just hiking trails like the Tahoe rim trail. if you ever get over to reno i recommend the hunter lake...

looks like an awesome trip. even though I live 30 minutes from Tahoe don't get up there much anymore, so many tourists now. sounds like you went to the proper part that is south lake on the Nevada side though.
