  1. 2.7L CAST IRON BLOCK - WHY?

Sort of, but not really. I mean, you're correct that the 3.7 Cyclone was just a bored and stroked 3.5 Duratec, but that overlooks my main point. You said "The 3.5 is limited by its open deck and aluminum block, where the Nano has the structure to handle a lot more abuse." I'm saying that they...
  2. 2.7L CAST IRON BLOCK - WHY?

Sounds to me like they should redesign the 3.5 to use the same architecture as the 2.7/3.0, just scaled up. A 3.5L Nano style EcoBoost would be a screamer, I'm sure. Plus, Ford seems to have a thing for boring and stroking engines to get more displacement, a la the 2.0/2.3 and the 2.7/3.0. If...
  3. What engine will you be getting?

The answer to that is beyond my knowledge base, but I'm sure someone has tried or plans to try with the Ranger and/or possibly the Bronco when it comes out.
  4. What engine will you be getting?

Dunno, but make sure you get the right gasket if you change the heads. That was actually a problem with the RS from the factory. Somebody installed Mustang head gaskets instead of RS head gaskets (2.3L Mustang also uses a different head from the RS), created all sorts of problems.
  5. What engine will you be getting?

Sort of. As near as I can tell, its' the same block and the same turbo, but different heads and a different tune from the factory. As @aabsalon says, it's more similar (probably identical) to the 2.3L in the Ranger.
  6. Not a gear head so explain to me 2.3 vs 2.7 . . .

That's true, and Toyota's 4.0L is considered to be pretty much bulletproof, but I've seen a lot of complaints about it being "weak," "underpowered," or "a dog." I've only driven one vehicle with Toyota's 4.0L, and that was a friend's FJ Cruiser. Even though I was pulling a trailer (fairly...
  7. Not a gear head so explain to me 2.3 vs 2.7 . . .

You may be right, but Ford's not going to put that in the Bronco. So perhaps I should rephrase: If the Coyote is more complexity than you want, you're probably not going to find that dirt simple engine in a modern production medium sized off road capable vehicle.
  8. Not a gear head so explain to me 2.3 vs 2.7 . . .

Fair enough, but I'll point out that if the Coyote is more complexity than you want, you're probably not going to find that dirt simple engine in a modern vehicle, even if you stick with the naturally aspirated options available today.
  9. Not a gear head so explain to me 2.3 vs 2.7 . . .

Speaking as another dumb millennial, I prefer the simplicity of a naturally aspirated engine, too. Fewer parts means fewer parts that can break. That said, the EcoBoost family of engines have been on the market since 2009, and the 2.3L and 2.7L EcoBoosts have been around since 2015. While...
  10. Another V6 option?

Then I think @BuckedOff-Road is SOL with his (yep, assuming gender) plan anyway, since the 3.0L the same case and head as the 2.7L. Maybe he can pull the 3.5L out of a wrecked F-150 Raptor and bore it out to 4.0?
  11. Another V6 option?

Get a 2.7 from a wrecked F-150, bore it to 4.0 and adjust the stroke however you need to instead. That way you start with the port injection already there. At that point, you're not tearing up the new Bronco, because you're not removing any parts, thus "preserving the integrity of the factory...
  12. What engine will you be getting?

I've never needed or wanted removable top and doors. I probably won't even use that feature on the Bronco. But everyone has different needs and wants. To each their own, and such. Also, in before someone says "Everything is removable if you have the right tools" and posts a pic of a...
  13. What engine will you be getting?

That's why I have a full size pickup. No need to drag a trailer around to haul firewood. I cut down and bucked a post oak last weekend. Still have a lot of splitting to do, but it's just too friggin' hot to do that right now.
  14. What engine will you be getting?

I'm not in any sort of rush to buy. I'm not a year 1 buyer for the Bronco anyway. I'm looking at the 2022 Bronco at the earliest, and 2023 isn't out of the question.
  15. What engine will you be getting?

I don't particularly care for the looks of the modern 4runners. I also really don't like the local Toyota dealers. I bought my 2011 Tundra from one of them and while I like the truck, the dealership I bought it from has me wishing I'd bought an F-150 instead, just so I didn't have to deal...
  16. EcoBoost Long Term Reliability?

According to Ford Authority, the 2.3L EcoBoost has been around since 2015, so they've had some time in the market. I can only find 2 common complaints of problems. One was specific to the Focus RS, which had head gasket problems on some vehicles. This was due to a difference in the specific...
  17. What engine will you be getting?

I'm more concerned with getting the offroad goodies, and if I can save money by keeping the base engine so I can put more of that money into said offroad goodies, I'd be fine with the 2.3L.
  18. Diesel Option For The Bronco?

I'm not the person you're asking, but I can almost guarantee it's a guess. Near as I can tell, Ford only makes 3 diesel engines currently. 3.0L Lion 3.2L Puma 6.7L Scorpion We're pretty sure that Ford's not going to put the 5.0L Coyote in the new Bronco, so it's a safe bet the 6.7L Scorpion...
