Hi Everyone,

I finally got around to putting together the video of my Bronco fire. Here's the story of what happened, lessons learned, and new gear I've added to help with this issue in the future. Hopefully this helps someone out!

Glad you are safe, thanks for the great tips and nice work producing another solid video @bmiller

I keep a tube of JB Weld waterproof epoxy that would be a great alternative or addition to the Plug ‘n Dike for emergency puncture repairs.

Great call on JB Weld. Wish I had it that evening. Plus, could use it for much more repairs. Thank you for the kind words!

Man that was a close one, glad you didn't lose your Bronco. I enjoy your journey
Thank you so much. I honestly thought I was going to lose the Bronco. I just replaced the old extinguisher a few days before the incident. Whew!

I used to do a lot of off roading, racing and exploring in the high deserts of AZ and CA. I learned from the vets to carry 3 fire extinguishers - one under the hood, one in arms reach of the driver and one in the back cargo area.

In addition to JB Weld, as mentioned above, a roll of self-vulcanizing rubber tape and Flex Seal style tape can get most holes patched quickly wet or dry.

And speaking of that, I need to order some fire extinguishers. I only one one in the Bronco right now.

The vets are not wrong. Great advice indeed. I'll be checking into those items mentioned above. More good advice to take!

You made an old post years back that I was able to show my pops to ditch element extinguishers for a proper 5+lb and I've always been grateful to you for that. Glad to see everything turned out as well as it could have.

Until you've tried to extinguish a vehicle with one, they seem like a great idea lol

I appreciate the haircut and shave before making this video. Looking mighty handsome, good sir!

You’ve already acknowledged the fighting that will result from talking about extinguishers, but from personal experience of our own recent fire you are going to have a bad time if you need to use a dry element extinguisher under the hood. Luckily we were warned about the corrosion from @Canyon Coolers and checked it out two days after the fire. Otherwise we would not have looked at it until our parts came in. In just two days the corrosion was out of control. It had even started forming on the ECU that was on the opposite side of where the extinguisher was used. We washed down and neutralized the engine bay five times, yet despite that when pulling the fuse box we found more corrosion under that too! All from the extinguisher.

Definitely get a Halon 1211 extinguisher for areas with electronics. We’re going to keep the dry element in the back as a backup. Hopefully we never need to use either of them.

Now to think about that list of accessories and receipts for bumping up insurance 😂😂😂 I don’t think they’ll cover it.

Thanks for putting this video together.

I'm still very new to owning a 6th gen bronco, and this is also my first offroad capable vehicle.

I've got a couple questions for ya.

1. Was the gas tank leaking prior to the brush getting stuck between skid plate and tank? I'm assuming having dry brush isn't strong enough to cause a rupture in the tank.

2. In this situation did you use the full reserves of the extinguisher? Or only enough to deal with the fire?

3. In the video you mention you've smelt a burning odor before and have visually inspected for fire under the vehicle in the past. Could this indicate you've had a fuel leak for sometime?

4. Any modifications you'd consider now knowing the gap between skid plate and fuel tank has potential for ignition when dry brush builds up?

Thanks for the transparency with how you've dealt with this issue. Glad to see your safe!

Thanks for the reminder regarding fire extinguishers. It might be the first after-market purchase I make when I get my Bronco.
