"Class is Medium Traditional Utility " from Ford. Also, look at the SAE standard that's used to determine GCWR. It has variables that a short wheel base off-road capable vehicle will just naturally suck at like the amount of allowable sway when braking and timed reverse launches up a steep (like 25% I think?) incline with the weight to be certified which might also have to be on that same 100 degree day that the Dam Run has to be accomplished. It sucks for the people buying an off-road capable vehicle to misuse as a tow rig, but it ensures reliable comparisons and surety that you can tow up to that GCWR which includes two 150lb people.
I'm liking your post but have NO CLUE what you just said.

It’s road kill. Probably a squirrel or a seagull. It’s hard to make out through the crack in the windshield.

*Edit* It has been brought to my attention that it may in fact be a dead pigeon with a string tied to its leg.
At the other end of the string is a coconut.

The Bronco is an off road specialist though . If you want a SUV that tows more , there are other options .
It has an IFS, so I reject your hypothesis.

The tow numbers probably reflect the short wheelbase - even with electronics you can't keep up with it in the western wind. Ten miles to the equipment rental place you could white knuckle cheat it.
Short wheelbase is an issue, but the 2-door and 4-door and currently rated with the same tow cap so it can't be that much of a problem. Also there are other short wheelbase SUVs with soft suspension thag t have been rated for upwards of 5000lbs.

TL;DR: Don't expect more than 3,500 pound tow rating. ?

So you're saying "it can pull a little utility trailer with whatever you want in it, to/from the dump/store/friends place/whatever. As long as the trailer can roll then you're good"?

Umm... like?

@Used2jeep I was referring to all of the crazy requirements of SAE J2807 which is the current standard manufacturers are using for tow ratings. Also, I pointed out that the Bronco is not an SUV.

Its going to be a pathetic 3500lb in an “SUV”.
Correct ... SUV ...SPORT utility vehicle..... WAAYYYY on the Sporting side, not the UTILITY side.
The further you go on the offroad side of design the farther you'll get from towing, even streetability at the extremes.
Folks have confused 2500 Suburban "SUV's" with Jeep/Bronco Suv's....not that Suburban/Expedition/Tahoe/Yukons were ever "SPORT" utility vehicles. They are UTILITY vehicles that stole the SPORT name from the cool kids.

I can see a future Overlanding version with stiffer/less flexy suspension with higher tow and cargo ratings.
But you'll lose offroad worthiness, it's pretty much a physics give and take thing.
Check out the 4Runners or any number of mid-size trucks, Taco, Ranger, Colorado, Canyon etc etc.

Point taken, but no I do not KOH and neither do the vast majority of prospective Bronco owners. Pretending that this sort of thing is the only activity that this vehicle should be used for is not helpful to the overall conversation.

Sorry about the second part - it was edited for actual usable language shortly after the initial post. Was making pancakes again.

A Suburban 2500 is rated to tow over 9000lbs! Literally no one on here is asking for that, so no we are NOT confusing the two things

As for the stiffer suspension part - the frustrating thing is that we don't actually know what this vehicle is really capable of with the current suspension. It's capped at the 3500lb rating of the Class II hitch they put on it, but perhaps with a Class III it really could tow 4000 or 4500. And that's without modifying the suspension. Unfortunately all Ford has done is give every single build the same blanket rating and leave it there, with no further information.

I used the "Do you even [blank], bro?" phrasing because I wasn't that serious about it. However, IFS has proven itself off-road and some manufacturers have really [done something unspeakable to] the pooch with some of their implementations of it, but it's not inherently a bad thing off-road. Doesn't a Hummer use IFS? ...and you can drop them out of a plane. It's all about the correct implementation. My opinion about it off-road is that an SFA will be better if you need to lift the pumpkin over large rocks in the centerline of the trail, but IFS can keep your center of gravity lower in places that will use your SFA as a lever and your low tire as the fulcrum to try and tip your rig. I prefer the IFS for what most of us--even the ones who trail it often--will be doing with our Broncos and that is driving them on poorly maintained roads. :D

I think the Jeep Wrangler is just about the only competitor to use when complaining about the towing capacity of the Bronco and it caps out at 3500lbs. You've got to look at all of the strict rules in SAE J2807. Also, if anyone wants to see the effect softer suspension (maybe more importantly, longer travel and different gearing) has on a vehicle, the Raptor loses about 3-5000 lbs of rating to a 3.5L EcoBoost F150 with less power.

A trailer that size would require an electronic brake controller which are a pain to add but nice from the factory. Typically Fords with 7Pin trailer plugs like the Bronco tow package has, have a built in brake controller. Anybody know if the Bronco has one?

IIRC, Ford has said that there was no built-in brake controller available on Bronco. To your larger point, although there are a number of trucks built with 7-pin wiring, I wouldn't make the leap to say they typically have a built in controller. Until very recently, the brake controller was a stand alone option that wasn't actually wrapped into the assorted trailer tow packages on F-150. It is still stand alone, but now also included in the max-tow package (but not the lower trailer packages). My truck certainly came with the trailer tow package but not the brake controller; I added that later. Either way, I don't think that Ford plans to offer in on Bronco. Until they made recent changes, even Expedition didn't offer a brake controller, and that's rated to tow a lot more...
