I'm positive there's a thread out there on this and I'm just being lazy not searching for it but figured I'd start this one.

I'm going to upgrade to a 285/70r17 tire from the factory Bridgestone 31s. Went back and forth but really don't think I need 35s. My question is whether a 1" lift will suffice or will 2" be necessary? I'm not sure how big the gap between the tire and fender is with that size tire on a two inch lift. I will eventually upgrade to an actual coilover suspension lift but for now I just need to accommodate the tires.

You see a lot of "was able to fit 35s, no rubbing" or "able to fit 33s with the crash bars intact" in reviews and never know if those are people who are driving to work and the store so the tires fit just fine for that but not for any actual articulation lol.

All advice is appreciated!

Check out "Budget Bronco" on YouTube. It is a good video. He tested 285/75R16 on a Base Bronco with success. This would be the same size as a 285/70R17. You don't need a lift.

We can also confirm the 285/70R17 will work on your stock vehicle, no need to lift for this fitment. You also should not need to modify the crash bars even under suspension articulation.

PM on the way

if you are keeping the stock rims you should not have any problems. I went with aftermarket rims with 285/70R17s and due to the offset I had to remove the crash bars. Factory offset is -55mm my rims are +6mm.

This is good news, I think the more aggressive 33's look good on most models.

How about 295/70/17? No rubbing so far, crash bars removed but may even try to reinstall. Just use it on the beach so not so worried about articulation

No lift needed. I have 285/70/17 on the wife’s OBX with 17x8 +18 wheels. Did not remove crash bars and no rub no scrub
