Just in case you’re bored.

shootout including my first fave Ford, the first gen Explorer.
I had a '92 Explorer to fit my expanded family after a couple Bronco II's. Very capable, versatile vehicle. Those with 4 dr Broncos ordered should hope it is as good (for the time) as the Explorer was for it's time. I hoping my 2 dr lives up to my (3) Bronco II's all around goodness for my now contracted family.

That Mitsu's equalizer though. :love:

I had a 87 Nissan Hardbody, that Pathy interior took me back.

Bought a 2 door 86 Trooper 2 in 2006 with 70k on it...sold it like a dope. One of the few vehicles Ive gotten rid of that I miss.

Of those I'd take the Trooper, Montero then the Pathfinder. The Cherokee gets a lot of love, had one as a winter beater years ago, just too cramped. At the risk of alienating masses of people on a Ford site, never even looked at Explorers, kinda plain looking.

I checked out a two door dodge raider back in 06 to have as a winter beater and didn’t pull the trigger. I’ve never seen another one for sale and think it could’ve been cool.

if you drink four beers and squint it kinda looks like a poor mans Range Rover.

Thought it looked familiar, found this:

What is a Dodge Raider?
The Dodge Raider was a short-lived mini-SUV, a twin to the Mitsubishi Montero, produced between 1987-1990. The Raider was available only as a 3-door, whereas the Montero offered a 5-door model as well as a 3-door. ... There was no direct successor to the Raider.

That Explorer dash looked like a spaceship compared to the Cherokee.

Brings back a bunch of memories, I had a '92 sport 2dr auto, and later a '94 sport manual. Then later a '98 4dr. They were better vehicles than I realized at the time. The '98 with the sohc v6 and 5spd auto was the best running, good economy, good towing too.

Good read, I had a 91 Explorer, got me through several tough winters in South Lake Tahoe, good set of studded tires and I put Warn Locking Hubs on it.

Love this quote from the article;
At the same time, skeptics are absolutely right when they observe that almost all SUV drivers spend most of their time on perfectly good paved roads. Many modern four-wheel-drive trucks never see a mud bog or a rocky stream bed in their lives. And if it's just snow you're worried about, well, there are four-wheel-drive passenger cars at almost every price level. So in a real sense, these do-anything SUVs have compromised their on-road ride and handling in favor of a task they perform only rarely. Maybe never. Is that a sound approach to engineering personal transportation?

Had a 94 Cherokee. Mechanically solid. So many electrical gremlins. The electrical system in that thing was never right.
