It happened to me again the other day out of nowhere - around 10k miles. Hasn’t since.

It's happened to me 2 or 3 times also. Each time the engine was not up to operating temperature yet. Outside temperature was around 65 degrees. I usually let it idle long enough at start-up for the rpms to drop from the cold start 1200 rpm to normal 900 rpm before driving. It seems it could be a throttle mapping issue, because it happens in between cold start and reaching operating temp. Badlands 2.3 7MT, about 1500 miles.

Just had it happen to me for the second time. I’ve got 900 miles and the car was definitely at full temp in second gear at 3k rpm.

Great work getting video. Mine hasn't done it much lately but I'm near 16k miles now and it's already 90 degrees out when I start my day. Will see if I can get it to come back this fall. Did happen after engine was up to 140ish degrees awhile back. Always 1st or 2nd gear around 2,500rpm

Just drive it hard til the tranny figures it out.

It's a manual. The tranny just does what you tell it to, like a good tranny should.

I’ve had my 2D since January, 5k miles. It’s happened 2-3 time randomly, usually shortly after I start it and get on my way in the morning. When I shifted it went away. I’ve been keeping an eye on it but have chalked it up the ECU learning and not letting it come up to temp first.. It seems very random at this point.

If it continues, or becomes an issue I’ll start the “can not recreate” paperwork.

Same, I've had it happen 3-4 times over the span of 3k miles. Noticing that it usually happens when it's hot out (80-90*F) and the engine is coming to temp still. Not really worried about it at all, I'm chalking it up to be a random cold engine throttle quirk.

Interesting, my 19 GT did this to me a few times, it was mainly when I would downshift and go WOT, in the lower revs. I know the engines are different however; when I took it to ford there were no CELs and when I described my symptoms the service writer told me its the computer protecting the engine.

I have an auto 2.3 BB, and never had the issue you mentioned but, if I do make it down shift around the same RPMs there is a lag time. So I wonder how much is the ECU throttleing for AFR or even the TCS freaking out.

My two cents worth anyway.

Mine just did this to me. 2.3L MT. Identical to the video posted earlier.
It was a little cold in that I had just started 2-3 minutes before, but it had only been off for about 30 minutes from when I last drove it and it was at operating temp then. Ambient temp was about 95F when it happened.
2100 miles on it.

Another chiming in with the Bronco Buck. Ive had this around 4-5 times now... Usually within 10-15 seconds of starting off when the vehicle is cold, but above freezing at ambient. I wonder if there is something to do with the mapping/tables when coming off the warmup cycle?

I'd say that's the same as what mine does too, so far in second gear with medium throttle at around 2800 RPM when the engine is not quite up to temp.

Did you have any luck with FoMoCo offering help?
