Would better gear oil fix the grinding noise we are hearing from the 7MT that some dealerships (like mine) are saying normal?

See my service record and sound byte below:

Is that noise on a cold start?

Is that noise on a cold start?

That noise is all the time.

Cold start.
Warm Start (70 degree F)
Even when fully warm.
Even after driving 30 minutes to dealership, and had a ride along with Ford Shop foreman.... after 30 minutes he heard it as soon as he got in.

And after all of that, they said what they said in my service record...

If you press in the clutch and it goes away it’s the throw out bearing.. just been my experience from past manual transmissions

I was reading on the the Bronco Nation forums that there’s been quite a few manual transmission problems. Sounds like the carrier bearings are getting damaged in the manufacturing process.

Carriers would definitely explain the constant but inconsistent sound, like loading/unloading of surfaces.

Look into BG Syncro shift 2 , mustang guys swear by it for the MT-82. The MT-82 uses the same ford spec fluid as the MT-88 and from what I can tell the MT-88 has the same issues as the MT-82, the clunky 1-2 shift

Shifting is not clunky whatsoever. It's quite nice.

It's that rolling rocks sound that i'm worried about.

Here is another video i took.... and yes I typically shift at ~ 3k, but in this video was going slow to capture "rolling rocks sound" which also happens at whatever RPM i'm at. :)

It's like dishwasher cycle sound. "rolling rocks/tumbling rocks"

Hello All, are there any types of heaters or a way to warm up the manual transmission oil quicker than normal (ala block heater)?

So I was thinking about replacing the transmission fluid in my 2.3L MT. I was wonder what would be the best type/brand/etc to get for this specific MT? I'd like a discussion on this because I'm very novice on this subject. What i do know is that GL-4 is the way to go but other than that i'm clueless. I just want better quality stuff than the factory.
Hey Bro, did you ever try this out? Inquiring minds in the MT Noise thread want to know…🫥

Not sure the viscosity or brand is the solution. My particular transmission had the noise whether it was cold or hot. I could drive 45 minutes across town and still hear the noise. So the true solution is the TSB with the update -D part I believe, or the tranny replacement from Ford (which is the tranny with the TSB already performed)

What’s the maintenance intervals on the fluid with the manual transmission? I’d probably do it the same time I do the axles.
