I was getting my oil changes at the dealer the other week. Walked into the show room which isn't much at the moment. Saw a little model Bronco Badlands on the desk/counter and asked the sale parson if they had those for sale. He basically said no, I got that at Costco. In our conversation he mentioned that the 2.7L water fording capabilities were not as good as the 2.3L because of the alternator position. Has anyone had any issues with this?

I'm plenty happy with the 2.3L in my 2-door, but it was also the only choice I had due to mantrans. Compared to the 5.8l and 5.0l that my 90's broncos had the 2.3l feels SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful with more torque. That being said I don't have a lift, run stock tires, and don't have a ton of extra weight bolted on. Also, if I had the choice to go 2.7l I surely would have because that's the kind of guy I am.

No issues with fording water with my 2.7L. If the alternator fails, it is a warranty repair. Drive your truck and enjoy it.

"My dealer said" is a drinking game here…

Ford Bronco 2.3L or 2.7L is everyone happy with either engine. Telephone Game

… because so much of what the salesmen know is often loosely based on what someone read here, but relayed through the "telephone game". 😄

FYI, there are several threads on this topic already. I suggest you start reading these first...

I’m pretty sure people see a recent hot post, and then just ask the same thing in a different way.

I have 2.7 on order. Grabbed a badlands non-sasquatch with 2.3 from a local dealer. Added factory Sasquatch wheels. Plenty of power and that is with 4.46 gears. If I end keeping the 2.3 I won’t be upset. Nothing wrong with the 2.3 but I’d take the 2.7 most likely if they were side by side.

I’m happy I have a manual transmission and I‘d be happy not to test it‘s water fording capabilities 😀

Water fording:

There is a great thread on it, including diagrams of where the alternator is for each engine and insight into decision making for alternator placement.

Definitely worth searching for!

I’ve never owned anything without a v8 in it. I can say this little 2.7 squirrel cage motor puts a smile on my face every time. Very happy with it.

It's a single twin-scroll turbo. 2.7l is twin mono-scroll turbos.

I have a 2.7 on order but have the 2.3 in my '21. I've been perfectly happy with it, decent power. It will be interesting to see when (if) my 2.7 arrives to compare the two.

So far, I'm very happy with my 2.3 with manual trans. I test drove a 2.3 auto and it was fine, just not quite as much fun as rowing through the gears.
