2.7 Blown Engine Owner's Experiences

It was recommended that someone start a thread for those of that have the experience of blowing the motor in our new Broncos. This will be a companion thread to the excellent thread @Lucchese started here: Blown Engine List

We can list resources, how long the repairs took, what Ford offered you afterwards, etc.


1 - Mine blew on 2-24-22. The Ford social media rep on here ( @Ford Motor Company ) put me in touch with a customer service rep that is supposed to help expedite repairs. They are also the person that will help you get whatever warranties Ford offers after repairs. Repairs were complete, with a detail, on 3-28-22. After a bit of negotiation I received an 84 Month/100K Powertrain warranty.

Replacing the motor has the potential to lower resale values. This is the address to file a claim for diminished values:

I did. I'm cancelling it as soon as I get the new one in writing. They should apply the credit to my loan.

It's considered a factory warranty, so yes.

They've closed my case, I'm being reimbursed for one monthly payment.

The dealer did provide full coverage of the Enterprise rental they provided for me from day one.

Once I was assigned a case worker, I started out asking for 2 payments (the Bronco was out of my possession for 60 days) and an extended power train warranty.

After several emails back and forth and phone calls, they said they would provide either one month's payment, or extended service plan. I provided full documentation of the payments, the delays and status updates, etc.

I'm taking the one monthly payment and moving on.

If I had a FE with plans on selling, I would also argue with them about dimminished value. However, given mine is what it is, I don't expect any detriment to re-sale. I could be wrong.

No consistency in the offerings then. I was told reimbursing a payment was impossible.

I don't plan on selling mine, but I'm still shooting for diminished value. It certainly can't hurt to try.

Most probably wouldn't. But, since 2021 was the first year for these, some collector might notice the numbers don't match.

That's interesting that it would have diminished value.
Only in the sense that I would much rather have one with a replaced engine than any MY21 that hadn't blown yet.

I'm currently drafting my email to make my requests and expectations known. I'm asking for the extended warranty and 2 months of payments. They have not had to cover a rental or loaner as neither have been available in my area. If you have recommended verbage or pointers, please let me know.

I'm still waiting on 4 bolts. Backorder date just got pushed back yet another week. But I wanted to get this process under way.
