So all the folks that have the 2.7 cam phaser rattle, what brand of oil were you using when it started rattling?? I was using Pennzoil Platinum when mine started. 500mi ago I switched to Motorcraft oil and mysteriously......mine has stopped rattling on startup the last couple days. It was doing it after sitting for 1hr and overnight of course. I started it yesterday after sitting for 6hrs and it didnt rattle, sat for 4hrs this morning after I got to work, started it up to leave for lunch and it didnt rattle.

I don't have the issue but interesting find. It's a mystery as to why Ford is using a blend oil when we know full synthetic is much better.

Personally on my first oil change I decided to go with Full Syth Valvoline, But as I said I didn't have cam phaser issues to start with.

Interesting. Maybe that Dino oil has a little more stick to it :)

I know a lot of people are getting it fixed under warranty but they got to pull the entire engine... Not sure which route I would go.

Mine goes in Monday for cam phaser replacement. Will run Motorcraft oil after that.

Posted the question in another sub forum and its not getting much attention. So my 2.7 cam phasers started rattling like crazy on cold startup after sitting for 1hr or overnight of course. When it started rattling I was changing my oil every 5k miles and using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. Five hundred miles ago just for testing purposes after I took it to the dealership for diagnosis and for them to order parts, I changed the oil a little short of 5k miles and swapped to Motorcraft 5w30 syn blend. Three days ago my cam phaser rattle stopped. Even sitting overnight for 11hrs it didnt rattle on cold startup.

So my question is what oil were yall running when your cam phasers started rattling?

I haven’t had any issues with mine yet, but oil type isn’t going to make any difference. It’s just a coincidence at best. I’m sure Ford has looked into using different types of oil in the last 10 years of phaser failures, yet it’s still a common occurrence

Ford Oil but I always use Archoil additive and my 2015 F150 runs better than new with 100k. Stuff works.

Lots of technology in oil blends I don’t believe just any oil will perform like others .

There was a broadcast message on PTS the other day that says if the Bronco 2.7 does that to replace all phasers.

SSM 51542 2020-2023 F-150, 2021-2023 Bronco - 2.7L/3.0L EcoBoost - Ticking/Tapping Or Rattle Type Noise From The Top Front Cover Area Of The Engine After Cold Soak
Some 2020-2023 F-150 and 2021-2023 Bronco vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a ticking/tapping or rattle type noise from the top front cover area of the engine on initial start-up after a cold soak of 6 hours or more that may last for 2-5 seconds. This may be due to a stuck internal component of the variable cam timing (VCT) unit. To correct the condition, replace all 4 of the VCT units following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01. For claiming, use causal part 6C525

LMFTFY

Ford's been dealing with phaser issues since the introduction of the 3V mod motors in the early 2000s.

Mine goes in tomorrow for cam phaser replacement. Took a month to get the parts.

I never had any of the 3V engines and only drove one in a 2005 Mustang. I was not a fan of the 4.6.
