Here's the problem with that: Ford has at least one foot - and 90% of their mental energy - OUT of the ICE world. Given the time & money in new engine development, I'ma gonna guess they'll choose to just limp along as-is, or perhaps even remove the 2.7 option.

Unless of course all these $99,000 150s wind up being lot queens.

maybe 22 out of 30,000 is just "normal" failure rate.

would be strange for engine failures specific to bronco considering how the internals of the engine are likely the same in all the other cars using the engine
22 on this message board. How many 2.7Ls have been delivered to forum members that actually post? A few hundred?

Is there a final total of 2.7L built for 2021?

This is not necessarily a "batch" problem. Could be an intermittent production process problem. For example, a temperature probe in the heat treating process reading intermittently incorrectly, or worn tooling cutting the valve keeper grooves. Or 100 other avenues of production malfunction.

Mpeugeot, you did soo much for us in the 10/25 build week thread, if your engine craps out, we will lobby Ford on your behalf!
I appreciate that, but one thing that I feel confident about is that Ford would do the right thing and replace the motor if it shells out.

That said, I am not going to drive it any different than how I drive my F-150 with 250k miles. Because if my 250k F-150 can handle my driving for over a 1/4 million miles, then I would expect my 4k mile Bronco to perform as well in terms of reliability and my driving.

We actually know quite a bit about the cause, If you read through all the reports it's pretty obvious. The plant will have received several cores by now, and failure analysis is done. Not a running problem/lean out/timing induced detonation for sure...we can rule that out at this point, due to the fact that @International_George had his fail on shutdown, and pics posted in one of the other threads I can't seem to find right now. Improper heat treat is the "word on the street", and that theory still holds water at this point. I'm still hoping a few dealerships will tell whether it was intake/exhaust or both

EDIT: finally found the pics I was thinking of,

Still would want to see the spark plugs, however, the valve heat treat is currently the most plausible answer.

Does anyone have an engine built within those dates with > 5000 miles. I wish we had that statistic to see how bad the problem is.
Should be over 5k next week... Maybe.

Look closely at the pic of the spark plug...it's hammered all to hell for sure, but the ground strap and electrode are still there and not turned to slag. It's still black even. Not a lean out, and definitely not detonation.

I focused more on your 250 mile to empty on a full tank. Your's has to be a 2 door, right?
I have a Bronco, that means that I have 2 doors. ;)

Ya, it's a pig normally because I have a heavy foot.

My highway average is about 17 mpg though.

good point, were all 22 forum members before their engine blew? or did they seek out the forum because it happened?
I have been on here for awhile. My Bronco was in the original “Bad Batch” group. I had a build date of 6/18 and was released from dirt mountain at the end of July and received in August. I was a soft top, so no idea why I was held up.
