Honestly, there is no dodging a bullet, if the valve and its related components were not the made from the right materials or treated to increase its strength then it's a ticking time bomb and will fail. For some it may be early on and for others it could be at a higher interval. I don't care if my engine last to 100k miles, once it fails the whole engine detonates and is no longer usable. That is not good. I went to FORD parts yesterday and was shown that ordering the valves right now are black listed (you cannot order them separately). I am seriously thinking of replacing the valves myself once I know that the new improved valves are available to buy.

In general, I agree with you, but the statistical chance of a compromised motor making it to 100k miles is near 0. Sure, it could happen, but chances of winning the lottery are about the same.

Trying to make sense of the failed engine data, I'm wondering if perhaps both (a) the failures had components that were at the edge of manufacturing tolerance, and (b) driving patterns in or near the break-in period caused the valve malfunctions.

In other words. do you think there's a possibility that what might have been a problem early on, could now be mitigated by the parts wearing-in? That might explain the dwindling reports of new failures.

We need to hear from an anonymous Ford engineer at some point. Otherwise we will never have any clue what was going on with these engines.

Engine blew Jan 15 and the saga continues!

My Bronco is currently sitting in the service department at Rountree Moore Ford in Lake City, Florida where I left it, having already had its engine replaced and 2 catalytic converters replaced. Still not running as intended!

The dealer is bringing an engineer down from Ford to help with the issue.

Other than the basic necessity of a rental car, I’m frustrated by the lack by Ford of offering any recompense for the fact that it has now been nearly 3 months (90 days!!!) since my engine died with no end in sight.

Communication from the dealer and Ford customer service has been nothing short of inconsistent.

Anyone who has been through this have any ideas of how I can push things forward?Against all odds at this point, I just want my Bronco back.

EDIT
Monday UPDATE:

- Julian 21181 - engine built June 30 - 2nd engine on this date in B6g tracking

If you’re in this timeframe you ought to strongly consider adding an extended warranty.
I got one of those but at the rate I drive, it will be used up in 1.5 yrs. So I'll just run this one till it breaks and then swap in a 5.2 supercharged V-8. So whenever it happens, I'll turn the situation into an upgrade.

There was a new plastic retainer clip that helps anchor the hose away from the pulley. However, I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy, so I'll take the 2 mins to further restrain the movement of that one little hose.
Has anyone provided a photo of this clip? I tried to chase this down on another thread but can't find what I am looking for.

Here is a photo of my pulley with the coolant line close by:

Have ford do a vehicle buy back and order another one which will prob be a 23 or get something else your bronco sounds like a lemon if it still has issues after engine replacement

yeah a few people have mentioned it but I haven't seen photo
- checked some threads on this subject, including the PSA sticky, but I don't see it
- would be interesting to see location and how it looks - ( i.e. new plastic retainer clip/clamp included w newer engines to hold coolant hose away from belt-pulley )

btw, here in desert SW a lot of zip-ties only last about a year before they get brittle and snap
Here are some pics.
The new clip, close up and zoomed out so you can tell the location

If the clip isn't present you'd think it would trigger a recall.

Thanks @KnoxGnater for posting images.

Is this the clip?

Thanks for the photo showing where it is located. I think I can find it now based on the metal hose clamp position as a locator.

That's it. I believe Ford added those clips in October, mine was built before that. I just looked through the 66 existing TSBs on the NHTSB site and no mention of the clips.

Just got back from a week long road trip to Off-Roadeo and beyond. I just said F it in some of the most remote driving our country has to offer. Over big mountains, below sea level in Death Valley, 100+ degree driving outside of Vegas and the majority of it at 80 mph+. 40+ hrs. behind the wheel and over 2k miles. I'm at 7445 miles now on a 21214 with three engines blown on that build day (one of which is 4 engines in front of mine in sequence, one 15 after). Sell it or use it I say. Could happen at any time I guess but only one way to find out (crossing fingers and knocks on wood).
