Never seen an oil pan plug like that (tho all my vehicles are >13 years old). Is there a magnet on the end of the drain plug to catch metal bits?

I cannot express how much I hate this plastic plug. Not for safety or reliability concerns, but because I have used a plug magnet for years to loosen/remove the plug without getting oil all over everything, and now I can't do that.

I'll get over it, sure, but I'm not happy right now lol.

Thanks for the vid either way! Awesome to see the full process!

Panda Motorworks has the 2.3 covered with a video here and below is one for you 2.7 folks if you want it :)

Thank you very much as I watched the video on 2.3L and the filter removal was a bear. The 2.7L is much easier so I'm glad I have the 2.7L on order.

It was a good video, I would have been hesitant to use the channel locks on the drain plug though.

If you go get your oil changed right now you'll have an engine overfilled by 1 quart because all the materials are calling for 7 quarts. Do it yourself until Ford sorts out this misprint mess.
That's exactly what I was thinking. As if there hasn't been enough crap during this roll out, not we have to worry if the dang OM is correct. :)

@evilletruck Thanks for the video Bill. You may have actually saved a bunch of us from needing to go back to the dealer to have a quart drained from the engine.

video states owner’s manual calls for full synthetic which is not accurate (calls for syn blend)

but good to run full synthetic regardless

FEMCO makes a better and lower cost option. I have it on my 2.7 and it's great.
Good to know. Ronin's was sold out and I was curious about the Femco one.

I changed mine last night at 1200 miles to go ahead and get synthetic in there. After draining for 30 min, filling, and waiting for it to settle in the pan, I showed full at 6.5qts. I think the other half quart was in my oil filter housing. Should I have changed the filter first before draining the pan to get more out?

Love the top mount filter, I used a 1-1/16 socket to remove. Drain plug location is better than the F150 because it doesn't point right at the sway bar, but I still had it gush onto the passenger tire and floor. Definitely going to swap the plug for a Ronin/Femco/Fumoto next time.

One other thing I did was crank in "flood mode" a couple times before starting to get oil circulated in the engine and build pressure. Just floor the gas pedal and hold the start button and it will crank but not start.

I wanted to use Castrol Magnatec but I noticed the manual says to use API SP rated. The Magnatec at Walmart carried the SN Plus rating. Went with Pennzoil Platinum instead. Next time I might just use my FordPass points to get Motorcraft Synthetic.

Lastly, is there no oil pressure gauge? I have oil temp but didn't find pressure.

EDIT: just found this UPR billet aluminum drain plug. May have to go this direction instead of another plastic unit.

Great Video. I saw a post somewhere if you open cap and remove oil filter first, the drain is faster and releasing all oil. Not sure it makes a difference in amount of oil drained, but I'll measure it first. Thanks for the tip.

I might have missed it in the video, but did you replace the drain plug and/or o-ring, or did you re-use it?
