Has anyone else noticed and "engine like rod knock" when you are stopped with the transmission in gear ( forward or reverse doesn't matter) knock changes with rpm until it goes away or occurs to fast to distinguish over 1200 rpm. The knocking sound instantly goes away while in Park or Neutral

Dealer couldn't find the source of the noise, said they coal hear it from the engine right through to the transfer case, they referred it to dealer support.

Dealer support asked them to find a vehicle with same drivetrain and compare, apparently that bronco made the same noise

Ours is a Black Diamond and has rubber floor with little insulation, so maybe noisier than one with carpets.

Has 30,000 km on it and hasn't got any worse so probably not anything serious

any one else noticing this noise?

"Engine" and "Knock" in the same sentence is never a good sign. Is Ford just shrugging their shoulders as to the cause?

Funny you posted this. My 2.7 was idling in park while I was winding the winch rope in and I swear it had a faint knock to it. This weekend was the first I had noticed it and I only have 2k on the clock.

When mine idles it sounds a bit like a diesel idle and has from the day I picked it up. No trouble with it whatsoever though.

These engines are not quiet. I also hear things "moving" internally.

You could try a mechanic ear scope (or a large metal rod) to listen around.

I've heard the same knock driving real slow in a parking lot especially because I have no idea how much oil pressure it has it you know just off idle

>Insert a 2.3L ;)

Jokes aside, hopefully it is just the normal/ abnormal 2.7L clunking tick

Yes I hear it driving slow too, but goes away with speed and/or rpm

I don't know if this is the case on the 2.7, but i have heard other direct injected engines sounding a bit diesel like due to the cam driven high pressure fuel pump. As long as it doesn't get worse, its probably normal, if it does get worse, then maybe the dealer can find the issue and get it fixed.

this is true. My last car was a Toyota 86 and every week someone would be posting a question to the forums about rod knock or the fuel pump crickets.

direct injection engines sound awful.

I noticed the noise the other day while hooking up my trailer. Turned on the AC and it went away.

This is exactly what my car was doing 23 2.7 badlands with just under 11000 miles. Took it in to dealer today they did a scope and there is some signs of wear in one of the cylinders where the piston is rubbing. They are completely replacing the engine. I feel pretty fortunate because the tech that I got had just recently seen the same thing in a raptor truck and as soon as he heard it he said I bet that is the issue.
can’t believe I have to get a new engine on a less then year old vehicle :(

I hear it as well. Slight throttle and it sounds like rod knock. I guess it's normal since so many of us are hearing the same thing. Either normal or Ford has a very expensive recall coming soon.
