Inquiring minds want to know:

1. why doesn't the oil filter catch metal shavings?
2. isn't it better to magnetize the oil filter rather than the oil plug?

I'm sure it does catch some of them, but…

2. isn't it better to magnetize the oil filter rather than the oil plug?
Metal (especially ferrous metals) being much heavier than oil, will tend to settle to the bottom. Best to put a magnet there.

But the metal shaving is so small and light, that as soon as the oil starts circulating, it will take the metal with it into the flow.

I was under the impression that you're supposed to change out the yellow plastic drain plug for a new one every few oilchanges. Would you at least have to change out the O-rings on these reusable ones?
Never changed it on my 5.0, no leaks after 7 or 8 oil changes.

I sure hope so. I’m about to do a oil change and that’s what I bought to replace the factory plug. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I have it on my raptor, it clicks into place with a pressure spring. Wouldn’t call it “locked”. I will get for the bronco, now that im hearing it uses the same plastic plug.

more of a response to ELKS1 I guess 😁

First off, if you watched the recent vid from the engine builder on the 2.7, this is NOT the same engine that's been around. It's a new generation, called nano...nano nano? lol, so not sure that everything applies the same as before.
Both 2.7 motors are nanos, one is first gen this is second gen.

I have the Ronin plug on order, should be here by Saturday. I plan on changing oil this weekend.

Definitely just checked my oil for the first time (idk man). I've got 500-600 miles on it, definitely past the top marker, cold cold engine.

Yep me too. Nice to know that was the last time I have to pull the whole plug. The oil really shoots out of there. Made a mess even with the catch tray.

Agree'd, but I got lucky didn't make a mess, and now I am curious as to how get around the bash plate without taking it off.
