My 2021 2.7L has a tick/tap on cold start up on acceleration. Is anyone else experiencing this? I think it could be a fuel ping but it sounds a little worse than that.

I'm not trying to be snarky here... have you had a direct injection gas engine in a car before? They make a lot of weird noises, especially at startup. After the warmup cycle is it quieter? If it doesn't might want to try and narrow down where it's coming from and then take it to be checked out.

Yes and I am a Ford senior master tech. This is not a normal noise. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this

I have the 4cyl and 50% of the time, upon reasonable acceleration the engine sounds sort of like a bicycle wheel with a playing card in the spokes.
definitely not normal

Other v6 owners mentioned that they heard a similar sound prior to engine failure

I have something similar occasionally happening but not what I'd call a tick. My last vehicle had the famous hemi tick and there's no comparison.

My 2.7 definitely has a tick on startup. If I have the door open or top off is when I really notice it. Gut reaction is always that sounds like shit and can’t be good.

I’ve been driving diesel super duties for 20 years, so gas engines are not my thing. BUT, my wife’s last 3 vehicles have been expy and f150 with 3.5s. No tick from those.

50% of the time? Do you mean when it's cold?
Definitely sounds very unrefined when cold and not that great when warm either.

That sucks. Seems the 2.7s are having some issues. Hopefully you get it ironed out

OP, is this your noise? Mine started at 2k miles about the time it got cold in Georgia. It is at the dealer waiting on new cam phasers.

Hope its not the FORD dreaded “ typewriter tick “ My 2018 Mustang has a tick on startup but seems to go way after warm up.

Nope - that was my first thought as well. Doesn't matter if the engine is warm or cold; or if the actual ambient temperature outside of the vehicle is warm or cold. Seems fairly random... which is what concerns me
