In my ever long quest to squeeze more into a 2 door and seeing the 4 doors have their own attic trays by pura vida and mountains to metals, I wanted to cobble something together but need some advice and help

I've removed by rear speaker pods and have only the mounts there. I'm not fabricator, and have basic tools and a very small grinder. Home depot, Lowes and amazon parts will have to work somehow. Unless someone in LA wants to help fab up something!

There is about 44" of space between the bars and 8 inches from the base of the speaker mount to the hard top rubber gasket.

I found this Molle panel
https://www.tsnoffroad.com/product/up-0324/

and this one
which is 44.5 x 6.25
https://813fabrication.com/products/jeep-gladiator-aluminum-cab-side-upper-only-molle-panel

So what kind of brackets could I use? or maybe a strut to pull it down? Ideas?

I went down this path back when @UtahBrandon came up with the attic shelf for the moar door. The width between nutserts on the roll bar is 44". But I was going to cut the depth of the shelf off at 6". 8" to the roof gasket doesn't leave any room to access the contents.

I was going to call it the "Bird's Nest" after Ashley was asking about storage for Birdie's food/toys/dog leash/harness/etc.

I was planning on using a triangle bracket that used the roll bar for support and using the nutsert. The 2 angles are 67 degrees at the speaker pods and 23 degrees at the base. (The third angle is the 90 degrees). The length that mirrors the rollbar is 15". And the length from the base to the 90 degree angle is 14". The 6" of the shelf is the same length of the 3rd length of the triangle. Was going to enlist my friend to 3D print the angle brackets as a proof of concept, but life gets in the way. Figure the "interior" of the triangle bracket would be a MOLLE grid to mount a first aid kit, flashlight, etc. The MOLLE grid would add strength to the triangle.

Figure the actual shelf doesn't have to be a heavy gauge steel as the capacity of the shelf is limited. With the above dimensions, there is 9" of usable space between the shelf and MIC HT. Enough to stow some light ropes and bags.

@Beach_Bum Well I do have a 3d printer, but very poor 3d design skills. If you can sketch out the bracket like I'm a 5 year old, I can try and do some basic 3d design and print us out some copies. That Molle panel I linked is about 7.5" x 43.5". If I can use that + the ratcheting hinge to bring it down and lock it back up in place, might just work even at 7.5 wide. if not I can just chop off an inch or two.

@Shane78 Thanks for the link. I'm looking to utilize the space above all that, kind of behind the rear speaker pods and above. See my crude drawing.

Why not just buy one like this? Or are you wanting it to be really deep?

That defeats the purpose of stow-away storage. Having the attic shelf as described above takes advantage of the void that is otherwise unused. Any shelf that meets the description that I described won't be seen in the rear-view mirror.

How about my original notes?
Ford Bronco 2 Door DIY attic tray help. Birds Nest Bracket

Obviously, this is very crude, but he angles/measurements are right. In my mind the triangle would be "chonky" enough such that there would be a mounting surface for the shelf itself and that little heavy "dash" at the bottom would be the "foot". You would also want a "chonky" enough surface of the 15" length so that it could be mounted to the nutsert. Figure a thin strip of weatherstrip would prevent the bracket from rubbing the paint on the roll bar.

Now the inside MOLLE panel of the triangle bracket isn't shown, but that shouldn't be too hard to conceptualize.

I didn’t think there was enough room for anything back there but if you’re saying there’s enough space and Can show me pictures or drawings of what you’re thinking, I can see what I can do to modify the 4 door version for you

Well, there are obvious differences between the 2/4 door roll bar. There is the angle and the fact that there is only a single nutsert. Of course, you found out that early MY'21 4-dr Broncos only had a single nutsert also. But for most 4-dr owners, your brackets work as intended.

There really isn't much space, but that void behind the roll bar and the HT glass would otherwise be unused. For 2-dr owners, the challenge is to maximize every bit of storage capacity that is available.

@KT_bronco already sourced actual shelf candidates linked above. The overall size of the shelf (44"x6") means that there really isn't much weight savings between a steel or aluminum MOLLE shelf. If a little weight savings can be realized, then that would be a plus. But the limited size also implies that it doesn't need to be heavy duty as the capacity is limited.

With regards to the actual bracket, the challenge is providing a sturdy mounting flange for the shelf while also overcoming the east/west lateral forces as there is only a single nutsert. Thinking about this last night, I feel a simple 90 degree flange on the outside of the roll bar on the bottom of the 15" length and a 90 degree flange on the inside of the roll bar at the top would be enough "framing" to overcome the lateral force.

@KT_bronco I'm going to tag a few people that had offered to help 2 years ago. First, @RBF 1401 deserves credit for the math and determining angles on the bracket sketch. @j_marinelli (he didn't offer to help, but I'm volunteering him) might be able to help with CAD design. @Squatch has 3D printing skills but he is pretty busy especially since he volunteered to fire up the factory to print the Console Spring Shims. And then there is @shoelessjoe who offered to help way back and he is a very talented designer with his 3D printed projects.

My original motivation was to create a solution for Miss Ashley as she had done so much for the B6G community and Miss Birdie is adorable. If the end result worked for others, all the better.

Really just have to do the prep on the spring things or it'd be cookin' already.

I'll read through this thread again and see what I can help out with.

You can read THE Yet Another thread to recall our conversation on this idea from 2 years ago. Of course, finding those posts might be more of a challenge as the B6G search engine is limited.
