Well I finally got some time to build the platform I've been needing. I haul tools for projects often and my grandson on the weekends so this is what I came up with. These are the key takeaways. The platform does not rest on the seats. The platform and frame can be removed in less than 60 seconds. The rear hatch maximizes storage and does not block access to jack. Folds flat when seats are up. I still need to add some black paint and tie downs.

This is literally perfect for my needs. Dog will love it. Easy to put the seats up when the kids are in the car and flat storage for bigger things. Yes any plans you have can share will be awesome. One of my first mods when my ride finally shows up.

Love it…if you can provide measurement and plan. What happens to boards beside the seats?

I will take some pics and measurements tomorrow but the back of the Bronco isn't exactly square so you just have to start laying boards , marking and cutting. You just gotta keep messing with it. A jig saw is helpful.

The boards don't inhibit seat operation.

That's awesome! Especially like how the seats can still come up.

After studying the pictures for a little while I see that the build is pretty simplistic as well as versatile.

Im not sure if this chicken scratch will help but here is a 5 min diagram that is not to scale. I did have to notch out 3 places in this wood frame. 2 where the seat belts anchor and 1 in the middle board where the seats get close together. (see pic) The 6x8 carpet came from Lowes $26. 1 piano hinge mounts on the bottom between the 2 front panels and another on top between the middle and rear panel. The platform is not attached to the frame for easy removal. I included a pic of the angle I put on the front of the frame to ease the seat sliding by.

Thanks for sharing your project! This is some really great work. I'm planning on a very similar project when my Bronco arrives.

Here are some customizations I'm considering - I would love to hear your thoughts:
  • Instead of 6" lumber for the frame, using 10" or 12" for additional depth. This may reduce comfort in the back seats.
  • Eliminating the rear cross member to allow open access from the back or a drawer installation. This would probably require screwing the top to the frame in the rear.
  • Splitting the folding sections down the center, so that it can be setup in a three seat configuration.
