LMR gets ahold of a 2021 Ford Bronco Big Bend Sasquatch Package in Carbonized Gray. What better than to test it out on the dyno and see what it makes?!

This particular vehicle comes equipped with the 2.3L Turbocharged 4cyl Ecoboost Engine that is rated at 270 HP & 310 lb-ft of torque. This Bronco has a 10-speed 10R80 Transmission & the pull will be made in 7th gear which is the 1:1 ratio. With this Sasquatch Package, you get 4.70 Rear Gears with 35" tires & 93 Octane Fuel will be in the tank for the dyno.

Dyno Results:
225.37 HP @ 4800 RPM
303.92 LB-FT @ 3400 RPM
(measured at engine)

Peak TQ number looks right. Peak HP number is low due to running into the speed limiter.

Not sure how fast it will appear to be with the 10 speed but with the 7 speed manual in a stock 4 door badlands it was definitely under powered.

I enjoyed it with the Sasquatch when I drove it. Tons of fun.

Measured at the rear wheels, not the engine. The 2.3 runs out of turbo at about that power mark, go look at any stock ranger or mustang dyno with the 2.3 to see the power flat-line after 4800 RPM. The power might climb another ten horses or so, but the torque curve is beyond done, So with the 300 horse rating using 93 Octane (270 is with 87), just about a 25% loss through the drive train aft of the transmission. Seems dead on for the big differential and heavy tires. The torque peak looks like a torque converter flash, so reality is less, putting the real peak in line with the factory rating after adjusting for the ~25% loss. It is making every bit of what Ford claims, but nothing more.

This is vastly better than the King Midget which has the relevant stats:

  • 1 wheel drive, 6 hp, one speed
    • It's only slightly worse than walking

These HP figures are a bit less than Ranger was putting down when new, adjusted for measuring actual HP/TQ rather than inferred engine hp/TQ. I'm wondering how the redonkulous tire diameter could affect these results, especially considering the 2.3/MT Badlands has the same gearing ratio but with more friendly unsprung wheel weight.

The engine is also rated at 300 hp and 325 lb/ft on premium fuel and 275/315 on regular.

Seems plausible given the parasitic losses along the way.

OP needs to remove (at the engine). It was a chassis dyno, those numbers are at the tires and align with the losses of the drivetrain. Hub dyno would show slightly higher without the rotating mass of the tires/wheels.
