is that alot? Im speaking from complete inexperience. i just want to know if i will be able to overland with this car. what are the payloads on other overlanding vehicles?
Are you the type of person who wants to bring $50k worth of glamping supplies with you, or are you OK sleeping in a tent and eating bolongna sandwiches?

You can go "overlanding" on a bycicle or in a $2m land yacht, what are you aiming for?

tongue weight?
There's over 1000lb difference between GVWR and curb weight with those numbers, so an extra 30lbs of tongue weight is not going to make the difference. GVWR governs available payload at lower trailer weights and GCWR at higher trailer weights.

Quick question: In the Bronco GVWR spreadsheet, there's a Curb Weight+Options column. Do we know what options are included in that weight? I can't for the life of me find them.

I'm assuming Sas and Lux packages.
I guess it is whatever Ford expects will be the common options (found on at least 33 percent of the vehicles). It looks like the Sasquatch package adds about 190 pounds in the case of the Base/Big Bend and Outer Banks models. Less for the BD and BL.

It is important to note that Ford derives these calculations for Bronco using an SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) standard which provides a level playing field. The SAE standard, “Performance Requirements for Determining Tow-Vehicle Gross Combination Weight Rating and Trailer Weight Rating,” is known as J2807.

For example, SAE J2807 requires the manufacturer to use a vehicle equipped with options found on at least 33 percent of the vehicles produced for that model. It also factors in the equivalent of a 150-pound driver and passenger and a full tank of fuel.

Ford states a 4dr BL, 2.7, auto has a curb weight w/ options of 5,282 lbs

As example:
4dr BL 2.3, auto base curb weight w/o options = 4,965 lbs
2.7 = 152 lbs
Lux package = 118 lbs (includes mid & high packages)
So a 4dr BL, 2.7, auto, lux package would be around 5,235 lbs and then most likely hardtop being 47 lbs.

Same here. Am I supposed to math before I go on vacation with my family? I’ve never thought about this in any other vehicle of mine, just loaded up.
I looked up some of the payloads of vehicles I have owned. I was likely over-weight on those big family vacations. Never bothered me before. Won't bother me here. :)

everything i am reading in posts says 10% tongue weight, no?

A3220 lb trailer would be 320lb tongue weight

if GVWR is 6180
6180 - 320tw - 5117cw = 743 llbs

BUT GCWR is 8840 so if you tried to hook. up a 3200lb trailer
to a fully weighted down truck at 6180lbs you'd be screwed, you'd really only have enough for 2660lbs, (8840 -6180) probably not even that because the tongue weight would put you over GVWR

CurbWeight + Tongue Weight must be less than GVWR
and Curb Weight + Tow Weight must be under GCWR

8840 - 3220 - leaves 5620 for max vehicle weight
5620 - 320 tongue weight - 5117 curb weight leaves 183 lbs left for a driver
seems about right to me

You're counting tongue weight twice there.

That 320 tongue weight is already included as part of the trailer weight. So as long as the 5620 max vehicle weight (that you get from GCWR-trailer weight) plus the 320 tongue weight keeps you under GVWR, you are good and that means 503 lb for passengers and gear.

Your example leaves you at 5117+183+3220=8520 combined vehicle weight.

And tongue weight varies. For boats it can be as low as 5%, campers 10-15% and flatbed around 10%. For campers, 13% is a good number to start with (the number in the glossy brochure is a horrible number to start with because that tends to be dry, no battery or propane which usually go on the front).

Even if you don't count tongue weight twice, it still would contribute to GVWR, no?

So four fat People can’t ride in a bronco?
I rode in a coworker's Smart Fortwo one time (it's terrible) and he pointed out the two of us (me 270 lbs and him 350 lbs) put the car well over its payload limit. Merica!
