Looks like it came apart at the threads. The angle on that cv joint looks a little extreme too.

The bigger the tire, the bigger the lever....
Very true.

Anybody know if SAS and non-SAS have the same tie rods? Seems like a stronger tie rod would be appropriate for SAS.

Word is that they are the same and only the axles get changed, but I haven't compared the two myself.

The tie rod is intentionally the weakest link in the IFS system, usually because it's the cheapest item and the easiest to replace. If you're breaking tie rods, take it as a sign.

Play extreme games, and the risk of breaking or rolling your Bronco goes up. For how I drive, 1 in 1,000,000,000 chance. For people basically TRYING to see if they can fail/break something, more like 1 in 5 chance.

Seems like something nefarious is at work here? Did you trying turning the wheels while the wheels didn’t want to turn? Maybe just a bad batch of tie rods.
Here's the video from his tiktok page...
He just rammed it in there and away they went...

I’m gonna call that driver error. The 37s didn’t help but you can’t just point and shoot on an obstacle like that…takes some finesse

The video didn’t look that bad. I am going to guess bad batch of tie rods or poorly manufactured. No reason for both to break on what I just saw.

I’m guessing if Loren Healy went with the stock tie rods and 37’s through the Rubicon, it’s likely OK. Skinny pedal does a lot of damage and Loren is a skilled driver. It’s like the old “what size tire can I run on a D35?” Arguments. Lots of people ran a 35” tire on a D35 without issue but they didn’t apply the skinny pedal too much.

Full lock and spinning is a death call to about anything.

Watched it at normal speed and it looks like when the left wheel slipped off the rock and shot him to the right, it pinned the right wheel against a rock, forcing it in and snapping the tie rod. Not sure why the driver's side broke as well. Maybe the kick back snapped both simultaneously...?

But, yeah, that obstacle needed a bit more 'crawl' and less 'Banzai!'....

If you’re deep on the trail how do you get that vehicle home after that?
