All the newer Jeeps come from the factory with the spare tire mount directly on the door. Bronco appears to be the same way. The picture of the silver bronco that doesn't have a tire carrier is because it hasn't been installed yet. Jeeps without a tire carrier installed look very similiar.

With a carrier installed.

Without a carrier.

Many people upgrade to a bumper mount tire carrier when they go to oversized tires because the hinges on the Jeep doors can't handle the extra weight

Ok...how does one open the upper glass in your picture with the mount on the door....sorry this is new to me. Is there clearance for the arc of the top glass?

If I am understanding your question-You want to know how rear window opens above tailgate? Open tailgate …..Lift window. If I am misunderstanding, I apologize.

Two step process.

Open swing gate to get the tire out of the way, then lift glass.

i.e., you have to open the lower swing gate with the tire mounted on it, to be able to raise the glass up.

The only time this is really problematic for me is when I need to run 2x4s or something out the back while leaving the glass open, and the spare tire is in the way too. Of course if it had a tail gate with a swing out spare mount, that problem becomes different.

One thing that Toyota did goofy- The FJ rear window is tiny and is curved at the bottom to avoid the spare tire. I get weird looks when I try to buy a 12" wiper for the rear window.

If you must open the tailgate to get the glass open ....then

If you need quick access to the back you open the tailgate and leave the glass down. Correct?

Yes, I open the glass about half the time, and the soft top window (when it is not rolled up and the side windows zipped off) barely at all.

This is what I was afraid of. It will be a PITA in parking lots.
I don't really understand your sentiment here? I would have preferred being able to roll down back glass as well but to say it will be a PITA?

Folks, opening the trunk it's not rocket science
I know, it’s like everyday life / second hand nature right?

Lol...yes, not rocket science.
The reason I asked is with a gate like my old escape you can lift up the glass to toss something in there quickly. At first glance, this was my frame of reference.

In the case of getting access quick, the whole gate would be opened in a Jeep or bronco (again noob here).

I preferred my old escape, but now my kids are teens and they complain the old escape is too small...otherwise the new escape sport....I mean bronco sport would have been the choice.

I do like the styling better on the bronco though, other than the tire on the back.

I'm wondering the same thing. There has to be a weatherstrip between them and it seems more logical that the glass would close onto the gate so water will run off.
