I wonder if the suggested ā€œbreak-inā€ period is so we donā€™t realize immediately how bad the MPG is šŸ¤£

Man, 1000 miles? Maybe it will go back but seems like that is going to take weeks.

The SF traffic will keep my speed variable at least for the first 100 miles coming home from the dealer.

What about using Adaptive Cruise Control? Wouldn't that vary your RPMs and speeds, and also prevent the lead foot acceleration if you stay in ECO?

As long as there is traffic.

How much does break-in matter for manual transmission ?
You're still going to not want to stay at a steady speed / in a steady gear for long time... and you're still breaking in the engine too.

When does Ford recommend the first oil change? That to me is a sign of whether they truly believe in a break-in period or not.
prolly normal cycle, but I ALWAYS do it at around 1000 - 1500 miles on any new car I buy and it has worked so not changing my ways.

I am shocked; definitely didnā€™t see that coming. Sure, thereā€™s usually an ā€œinformalā€ break-in period, but unless itā€™s a performance vehicle, usually you donā€™t see these called out.

Or I simply skipped reading that in all the owners manuals :D

The dealership is 16 miles away. So, the first day will be a total of 32 miles. Personally, I pay attention to the warranty before the owners manual.

Why? After doing my own trials on vehicles one in which I really didn't care 4.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee that got the oil changed once a year/every 16k miles ... yeah you read that right šŸ˜†

And a 2.5 turbo Forester that got it changed twice a year/every 8k miles I find it redundant to change oil more that often.

As long as the oil is below 250 degrees for the majority of its lifespan it should last longer than most would assume. I spend a fair amount of time at work analyzing oil temps and thermal breakdown of oils.
