Won’t be collectible. ICE vehicles will be forcefully destroyed in a couple decades. I plan on abusing the hell out of my FE and putting it to pasture when the turbos blow at under 100k miles

don’t get me wrong, my Tesla will be in a landfill at that point as well because technology will have iterated annually like iPhones and no one will want to drive it

Well it should not matter then if you get a 2021 or 2022 . Unless of course it is just about getting one sooner rather than later.
So I will plan on getting exactly what I want with what I want on it and get it whenever it becomes available.

Sounds like a good plan. When is your reservation time stamped? Do you know your number in line with your dealer?

My take is this, the rarest production of the M21 year might be collectible or worth money, as long as it’s a manual. Manuals will be dead in the next 20-30 years. I’m saying if you’ve got a 2-door Badlands with a manual transmission and a cool color like Cyber Orange, you’ll have a vehicle worth some money in 20 years. I’m calling the color option and 2 door because in 20 years I think loud colors will be more rare and 2 door vehicles are already more scarce than 4 doors.
I think you meant to put manuals will be dead in 2-3 years. I don't see them lasting much longer with DCT transmissions advancing so fast now.

I am really hoping to get a 2021 because it will forever remind me of what we all went through in this forum since 2020. If I see a fellow '21, I'll know all the hell he, and his family, went through to pick a body, color, trim, engine, trans and whether to Squatch or not to Sqatch. I will wave✌ and know your pain? my brother...???

No, neither will be a collector car. I do think they will retain their value better than other vehicles. It is possible that they become more sought after if Ford ditchs some major attribute such as removable doors, abandon the 2dr, abandons the manual, limit the portion of the roof that I removable etc. If, in 2023 they only make 4dr, then you might see the 2021 -2022 2dr being valued higher or more sought after. EX: I have a 2012 WRX Hatch, and Subaru discontinued the WRX hatch in 2013, so mine has held its value really well and is more sought after, although I don't think it will ever be a "collectible", resale will be very good and people buy them quickly.

All this said, I do think the new Bronco will take a bite out of the pre-1975 Bronco value and desirability, greatly sustained because of the removable top. I think the nostalgic nature of Bronco fans impacted the value of the early models. With this amazing Bronco reboot, the new version will scratch the itch of many of those buyers, so fewer people competing for the prior models. If you are looking to spend $60K on a Bronco, you can get top of line new one or a moderately restored old one...many will go new, especially with the removable top and doors. If I had an OG model, and I was concerned about value, I might sell before the new model is released.

My "not so expert" opinion.

First Edition maybe, if you store it and keep mileage basically non existent. Other than that no real collectible value.

Buy it, put it in a garage, don't drive it, 50 years from now (Then, all vehicles available for sale will be autonomous electric, etc...) It will be worth a million dollars, regardless of model year. The Smithsonian will buy it for an exhibit titled "Ancient Modes of Transportation."
Unfortunately in 50 years a million dollars will be worth 100,000 dollars.

Is there any reason in having a 2021 Bronco rather than a 2022 Bronco with all things being equal.
Yes! There is a huge value in 2021 vs 2022. You will get a lot of 'ahh's and 'oohs' as one of the first people driving down the highway or your neighborhood and everyone looking at a 3D Bronco vs 2D onscreen or print.

And, if you are one of those who will garage it - 50 years from now you might not even be around or in good enough health to enjoy the money even if it did have some enormous value. Also, instead of storing it, you get to enjoy the vehicle when you are younger and can better appreciate it.

I have worked in professional offices where Partners (owners) worked zillions of hours to get to the top and were so busy they never really got time to enjoy life when they were in their prime. Ultimately, with deteriorated health exacerbated by that insane work schedule, they ended up enjoying nothing because their poor health didn't allow them to enjoy all that money anyhow.

Lastly, to someone else's earlier comment about manual transmissions, Ford might just pull the plug on the manual at some point from a $$ reason due to economies of scale vs demand. Not that this will be a factor in 2022...but... I plan to get a 2 door manual in 2021 if at all possible. Like my wise friend always says, ' a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush'. - Get it now...enjoy it now = )

I was gonna say 30 years Richard, but 50 is probably more accurate. :)

I can't believe this thread is still going, but since it is:

I think this Bronco will see 9 years with a mid-life refresh for MY26 and then it will be killed off again. They may keep the name, but it will be nothing like this one; see: Bronco Sport.

So, after this Bronco ends, yes, people will value it mpre, but it will have been made for 8 to 10 model years and the 21s only have Lightning Blue and some stickers and will be 8-10 year pld vehicles at that point and probably not compatible with the latest semi-autonomous only freeways.

So, not really, but a sucker is born every minute.

Aside from really high end cars that you need to be on a list for because there are only a few made, most cars you would consider doing well as collector cars are just passing their original MSRP 20-30 years later in mint condition with very few miles. Add in inflation, upkeep, storage, and insurance and the owner lost a lot of money. This is not even considering the opportunity cost of not investing the money in other things such as an S&P index fund. So you basically won't make anything on either year. Since we know that they will be essentially the same, there won't be the one-year-only cool factor either, such as the '63 Corvette split window. I would say forget collectibility and drive what you like.
Agreed. This is my 63 :)
