With Heated Rear Window, With Heated Steering Wheel
Will the steering wheel heat up by just adding this unit?
Meaning, do all of the steering wheels have the heating element and just need a button to activate it?

So your own unit had the heating button correct? I'm blown away why the new needs to be programmed? It's just a button for gosh sakes.

Correct. I had the same thought. Guess it explains why this module was swapped during the chip shortage?

This is accurate. The whole module was swapped to get the display dials. The new module and old module both have heated seat buttons and heated rear glass. I was really hoping it would be plug and play but it seems the new module ships without having everything enabled "as built"

So what we have to do is pull the vehicle configuration, swap modules, then write those values to the new module is my understanding. If the values were stored solely in the bcm, this wouldn't need to happen.

Also pretty cool to see this thread get shared on Facebook. I just like to tinker and wanted to see if I could make this work or how much effort it would be.

Correct, they’ll have to do a PMI, programmable module installation, which basically takes in all the old module’s information and then programs it to the new one. Or if that module is damaged or removed and they’re unable to do that, then they would use as-built data to program it.

I wonder how much they’ll charge

A license for the software sounds like it's only $50 for a couple days, but you have to buy that interface dongle that isn't as cheap.

There are a few folks on the forum that have purchased all that stuff, don't know if any of them live close to you?
