I have noticed a similar event in 4L, but my FE seems to be up shifting and trying to match the rpms itself and it's incorrect. it lurches forwards during the shift. I will go try it now in 4L manual mode 1st gear and report back.

So yes, I have had some funny shifts in 4-lo, but it has never been under throttle or in a situation where I've been concerned about hitting anyone. If you're following someone going down hill and they're close enough that you almost hit them with that shift, YOU ARE TOO CLOSE, 1000%. Trans will try and shift under the right conditions if you're not in manual mode so if you want more control that's where you should be.

I don't agree with the 4-Auto offroad. To me that's an on-road feature. If I'm offroad I'm in 4WD. I don't put my Bronco in any type of 4WD on gravel roads.

I agree with you. Perhaps the word dangerous to extreme. I tapped my brakes each time and it seem to be OK. However, if I was rock crawling, it might become an issue. Has anyone had it happen during rock crawling?
Yes, I had it happen several times last week.

Part of what sealed my decision to get the 7MT was driving the 10AT at the Vegas Offroadeo and seeing how the shift from 1st to 2nd involved lurching in 4L.

If you need to be in 4L, you shouldn't need to shift a lot – as others have suggested, put it in manual mode and use the clicker on the side of the shifter to control the shifts.

Remember, it's a 10 speed transmission designed and program for MPG so it wants to shift up when it can. 10 speeds means your first 2 gears are your first gear in an old 5 speed transmission. Not really, but you have to get to third gear to go up to the equivalent of second in a 5 speed. Many older trucks autos were 4 speed to 6 speed before these new 8 and 10 speed trannies.

Also, the turbo engines and the programming to match RPMs to make things smooth working with 4L are new pairings and for rock crawling or rough going I would just use manual mode to have complete control; the auto will want to shift up, so don't let it by locking into gear.

Never had the trouble in 4H. So, I think it's 4L and traveling too fast down hill. I'm going to try 4A next time. Thank you.
That's the key piece of info. 4A will actually be worse in that scenario. If you're just in Drive, the transmission will shift as you pick up speed. Use Manual mode and leave it in 1st, maybe 2nd. Let the engine braking keep your speed down. This will also reduce the need to ride your brakes which can cause brake fade.

Hey, Charles. Would you mind sending over a private message with some more details regarding this acceleration issue? I would like to take a closer look at this concern on my end.
Please let me know how this work out as mine does it also.

Putting in 4L did not resolve the issue on my Bronco. It still done it.
Did you mean putting it in Manual? We all know it's happening only when in 4L.

Yes, sorry. 4L manual, 4L auto as well as in rock crawl mode. It was bugging me a lot last week so I tested all sorts of scenarios while I was there.

Already asked? Did you have something sitting on the crawl control buttons?

I've experienced it in 4L auto and rock crawl mode but not when I put it in manual mode while in 4L. I admit I am not happy with this happening so am hoping there is a Ford fix.

Ford already has a fix for this issue. ;)

Hello friends,

My 2023 Bronco Badlands accelerates dangerously while in four-wheel-drive low. The transmission appears to be in first gear, then suddenly and dangerously surges forward and begins to accelerate. I then have to hit the brakes before hitting the vehicle in front of me. Yesterday it happen 10+ times, without any warning.

Sometimes my knee hits the shift lever, and downshifts the car by hitting the +- buttons, causing wierd acceleration/deceleration. The effect would be more pronounced in Lo.

Are you sure you don't have the crawl control on ? I know that startled me a few times.
