I have to use the 3 hard top holes and the 2 fender top bolt holes, it's the only way. The way the side windows fit forces the bracket to hug the body line like it or not. Or the windows bind.
I have a 1/16" rubber gasket between the bracket and the body to protect the paint

I drove 6000 miles, a lot with 80lbs ( my listed capacity) on all sorts of bouncy road and had zero damage....check out my instagram account for pics and videos

This concern is part of the reason why I have capped it at 80lbs way under its potential. But 80lbs is also plenty for what I use it for, and I believe it to be the same for most of the Bronco owners. Im betting most will never take it off road.

Thanks
Tim

Glad to hear it uses the available hard top bolt holes in addition to the fender bolts. I was concerned about using the fender bolts alone (like other roof racks out there). Thanks!!

Thanks. Working hard making it happen !

By the way,,,,,It will work on your truck with the top off…. just in case that urge keeps you up at night !
Or you live where it doesn’t rain anymore.

Thanks

I never even considered using just those 2 fender bolts. I was attaching to the 3 hard top holes and the fender bolts where in the way sticking up. I removed them and used the holes for “more rigidity”. Almost to protect the body from bounce.
The picture is the prototype bracket with just spray paint and 6000 miles of abuse on it. The finished product will be slightly different and powder coated.
The non bracket picture shows the condition after we drove cross country. Including some hard off road testing.
Thanks!

Agree with the feedback here. Absolutely love the functionality. Finally a rack for the hard top that doesn't defeat the purpose of buying a removable top vehicle. I'd love a gen 2 that was more tubular/soft edges, something like you see yakima bars have.

We will see!
I don’t plan to stop at this design. Once it’s up and running I will continue designing more for Broncos and for other trucks as well.

But for the time being this is it.
Im a small shop.

Hopefully it does well inspiring more.
Thanks !

Design is interesting.

Some constructive criticism if I may: I find the twist knobs clunky and also seem like they would be prone to potential vandalism or theft this way. I would suggest a more low profile latch system specifically with locks. As is seems too clunky and too easy to sabotage or steal at a glance. It would also give it a more stream lined appearance.

I understand the erector set approach as you are trying to figure out shipping and end user assembly as well but it looks very unrefined and unfinished in it's current state.

I realize everyone will have their opinion, part of the pros and cons of posting this sort of thing on a public forum. My opinion comes from 2 decades as an automotive engineer.

I like the idea, it is cool, just needs refinement.

Now, that has to be some of the most unique. Innovative, think outside the box designing I've seen. I have a hard top, with just a rear cap roof rack.
Would you sell just that front support piece alone? With that I could carry long boards with my rear roof rack.

@22winty Very cool!!

2 questions...

1. Will this only work with the OEM soft top or it is compatible with the Bestop Fastback top as well? (Pretty sure it's OEM only)
2. Where are you located?
