I know the undercarriage parts are going to rust eventually, however these are the only parts I see a significant amount of rust on and it's only been 3,600 miles. Is this normal? I've done some light off roading about 3 times otherwise it's all pavement.

Itā€™s going to happen the Ford pickups do it to only thing to do is get a wire brush get the rust off than use some rustolem primer than some rust oleum black spray paint but I see thereā€™s stickers with part numbers on the shafts. Also make sure you are not parking on any grass cause you will get a lot of moisture

Mud can cause corrosion from what I understand - but further more, I have owned 3 brand new cars since 2016. in each case there is rust when I look at the underbody after maybe 6 months.

Granted, I live in Michigan... the road salt capital of the country, but it seems to occur even in summer months

Hey Jim how close do you live to the beach? I also live in NJ and close to the beach. Seems a little soon to be rusting unless you were driving on the beach somewhere, although it's limited here in NJ.

Why is it uncoated when everything else is painted?
every new car is going to have some un coated stuff underneath. it's just surface rust. you can wire brush it off and paint it or just dont look at it

Because it costs less - and the parts have passed extended durability at Ford proving grounds which includes A LOT of salt baths and acid baths.

It's surface corrosion / cosmetic. It's the same thing as F150s having rusty diffs.

I believe it's just surface rust and not something to worry about. Ford leaves rear diff pumpkins unpainted all the time and they rust almost immediately. It shouldn't be anything penetrating to where it will rust through, it just looks bad.

You definitely need to get an undercarriage coating of some kind if you want it to last.
For some reason manufacturers donā€™t want to spend the extra couple of hundred $$ to prevent this from happening šŸ˜’
