Why should I burn data for maps when they can just be always in the car? And what about places where I don't have cell service or are roaming?
Dont' get me wrong, I think the ford nav subscription model is terrible and i will not be subscribing to it. Good point on the data...I didn't think about that aspect. I use the nav in my truck once in a while but usually find my self just searching for the address on my phone and dropping my phone in the ram mount x-grip.

So I got thinking none of this, build in vs subscription, would matter to me since I can use my Gaia GPS maps through Android Auto. BUT, the dreaded but, Android Auto will not let you use 3rd party navigation apps. Man o man I am thinking with all these little things this new car experience is not as cool as it had hoped.
DAMN. I haven't used Android Auto before so didn't know about that limitation. I also use OSMand (Open Street Map Android) on my phone and you can download offline maps. I have seen an option on google maps that you can set up a route and download it to your phone? I have noticed in the past that once I punch in a route that google maps will keep working even if I lose cell service, as long as i don't close out the app while i have no cell service. Not the best option but still better than paying ford monthly?

For the $50k I am contemplating dropping on a truck with new tech I was hoping for a better solution than this. Otherwise what is the point of a huge in dash screen?

I think with both Android Auto and Apple Car Play support, and the map apps outside of SYNC4 maps being able to download to phone... as long as said map app is available via Android Auto or CarPlay… I don't see the need for the subscription service.

Still no clear understanding on the trail maps... will some be loaded on the vehicle and/or will the subscription allow updates and more maps?

New tech is cool, but frustrating being on bleeding edge when there's no experience of being on bleeding edge. Makes for lack of clarity and understanding to consumers.

Nav systems (and their updates) have always been big money makers for car companies. But then along come smartphones and map apps and no one needs built in navigation anymore. This is Ford trying to match the capability of Google Maps for those people who may not use a smartphone. But for everyone else they are little used. Some car companies have learned and now just toss in Google Maps for free.

The only benefit I could see is the Trail Maps if the data is better than Google. Otherwise I will never use it.

if you have the Mid package or higher you get Apple Car play. With Apple car play you can see your navigation phone apps on your screen
Where does it say that? I was looking for that in B&P but couldn’t find that. I thought car play was included in it somewhere. Didn’t understand the difference in the “build-in” nav that costs more.

Look at the Ford website where it explains Sync 4. Sync 4 enables you to wirelessly link to Android Auto and Apple Carplay

Android/Apple are great for point A to B directions as long as you have connectivity. In my experience with Adv moto riding, Stand alone GPS is the only way to go. I have never had factory GPS in any of my cars. I have tried to send GPS tracks to friends for them to upload into their car systems and they told me that they can't do it. If Ford wants to make a real selling point of their GPS systems, They need to have a system that allows users to create tracks on a system such as Garmin Basecamp that can then be uploaded to the car. Otherwise The user is stuck with whatever the manufacture has given them. Also, You can purchase a lifetime map update from Garmin for around 100$ last time I checked. Those maps get updated about 4 time a year.

The more I read into this, I am realizing this is really just Ford's spin on GM's Infotainment 3 systems.

GM Infotainment 3 Plus (Ford's Connected Navigation) = No built-in maps, FordPass subscription is for getting all navigation/map data/real-time traffic updates/online location searches.

GM Infotainment 3 Plus with Navigation (Ford's Connected Built-in Navigation) = Map data stored in infotainment system (Updateable online or by USB), FordPass subscription is for enabling real-time traffic updates and online location searches.
Hmmm, I have a Garmin RV770 7" display GPS with lifetime maps, weather, and traffic in my M/H, I am sure I can mount it on that nice accessory rail on the dash, and it doesn't need a cell connection. This is just another way for Ford to squeeze money out of you. There is a constellation of GPS satellites in Geo-Syncros orbit that provides location service for FREE! What ever happened to self contained NAV systems in your car. Soon you will need a cell connection to DRIVE your car.

Nothing has changed. You add the installed navigation for $695 and you have maps forever. Ford just added an option for lower trims to have a subscription based maps. Didn't not have that option in the past. You had to go all out high trims to get navigation.
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT THAT $695.00 IS FOR. So with that option there is no subscription fee? If so....I will opt for that. Thanks

Streaming porn for date nights with the misses? There's a reason for the porthole roof opening on the 2-door modular top, really opens up the playbook on positions.

Okay, aside from that bonus, the big screen is just there to make you feel pretty awesome and that you have the eye hand coordination to touch buttons while driving. And a whopping 36 inch........ month subscription.

Jokes aside, the primary major benefit to the larger screen is that it has the 360 view, which can be handy in some cars and aggravating in others. Bronco appears to have some fairly large dead spaces in the few images they have released of 360 in action, but those are pre-production. But you can easily save $1,300 and just stick with mid pack.

I think I understand the difference between the two, and I think I may actually opt for it because I plan on taking my Bronco as far away from civilization, and cell range as possible, but here's my question:

On the Build and Price, on the Black Diamond, on the interior 360 Viewer, when you add the $695 Built In Nav, the little circle starts spinning and then viola, the 8" screen turns into the 12" screen! So on the Black Diamond, with the Mid Package, do we get the 12" screen when we add this option? Or is this just another B&P screw up?

Although, Ive gone back and forth between whether I would even want the 12". Sometimes I think it looks TOO big and kind of ridiculous.
