I have been thinking about getting a WildTrak 4 door, and it comes standard with the SAS 35" MT. I will be doing a lot of highway driving and heard the MT are bad on gas, and loud. Was wondering if Ford will let you switch out the MT for something like AT tires from factory?

Based on these spec sheets, and comparing to the other models that *do* list tire options (Badlands, for example), my initial answer to your question would be "no."

But again, we're still early in the game to say anything definitively.

FORD really needs to give us Sasquatch people a tire option besides the MTs. Should have a second option for ATs at least.

I live up in the Northeast and need tires that can be used in the Winter. Im thinking the Soft rubber of the Mud terrain will turn hard in the cold and be dangerous to drive on.

I ran 38 M/Ts for years, no issues at all. Are they loud, maybe depending on what you usually drive. Bad on gas? No more than what having a lifted vehicle has done for gas mileage. Doubt Ford will let you a la carte your tires.

Hopefully there is A/T option, but this M/T is a custom tire so I’m sure Ford will engineer the NVH to be good from the factory

There is another thread on here about this but the M/T on SAS tires stands for either max traction or multi terrain I can’t remember. The important thing is they’re not mud tires from my understanding.

I think most of the pre-prod units we've seen that are squatched-out have actually had AT's on them. For the intended purpose of the Wildtrak, I'm not sure MTs make much sense....not very effective in sand or at high speeds.

I wouldn't think so..
But you can do that as so as you get it..
A Good tire store will give about cost on them..
Swapping them for what you want..
