Anyone running 37's having issues with the spare being to heavy for the tailgate? I know there is the aftermarket kit to strengthen it but not sure if it's really necessary. Is there a known specific weight that the tailgate is supposed to support?

Not sure what the specific weight is, but even going with a heavier 35 inch wheel and tire combo is too much for it , and introduces all sorts of new noises coming from it without reinforcing anything.

I've been worried about this long-term as well.

I wish someone would come out with a bumper like the one AEV has for the Jeep Wrangler. Takes the weight of the tire off of the tailgate completely.

Personally I would keep a 35 spare. It's plenty big enough to get the job done but save the swing gate abuse. It just won't look as "cool" The swing gate is only rated for 133 lbs. that includes the tire carrier.

This would be best but rattles will follow if that bothers you. ;)

It looks as if that will make a more rigid tailgate but not sure about making the hinges stronger.
It sure will add to the weight the hinges must carry.
