4 door bronco has b pillars that are 1. inline with the seats (unlike most trucks) and 2. are blocky to support the roof structure and dont have elbow cut-outs (unlike most trucks).
Turns out the 2-door isn't 'form over function'; its 'form AND function'.

I'm 5'10", 265, pretty broad shouldered.
Last week at the KMF event I adjusted the seat in the OBX so my wrists were on top. I didn't notice the B-Pillar being an issue, but also felt like the interior was about the same size as my Mazda 6 sedan - although the back seat was definitely a bit more cramped with slightly less legroom. The interior dimensions just aren't that big.
Honestly, the Bronco is just barely large enough for me and is more compact than I expected.

For what it's worth, the 51.8" rear 2 dr shoulder room per ford (which looks to line up with the B Pillar, presumably carried over to the 4 door b pillar), is confirmed here at 52" (wall to wall)

if this uniquely affects 4 door, i sympathize with those this issue impacts. As a 2 door reservation holder (defer to my22 for mansquatch), it has been an uphill battle justifying to my family and friends getting the 2 door. This is more ammo for the cause. Bookmarked this sub along with the pictures so i can whip those out when they tell me putting my kid in the backseat is going to be a nightmare. 10 seconds of pain better than a constant uncomfortable driving experience. (6' 260lbs with wide shoulders)

None of them are open. I’ve tried for days. I am confused by the 51.8” considering this from Ford website.

So I just measure where I fall in my 2014 Taurus Limited. B pillar to b pillar for me where my shoulder sits is right below the seatbelt loop. That measures just under 50”, so basically I have over an inch more room, give or take. Time will tell when I get to one of the bronco events when they open in my area. As I sit here and sweat nervously about what I’ve wait for for 5 years since they announced it was coming back.

Great investigation.

These seats seem to be pushed allllll the way back. Otherwise the seatbelt sling would be sitting next to your head.

I'm relatively short for a man (5'8"), so I can't speak for you gigantor people, but I suspect it will be a minority of people pushing the seat that far back during normal driving.

We need to compare some stills from the ride-alongs to see where the driver's are falling in term of the B Pillar. Their shoulders may be forward of it while in a normal driving position.
Speak for yourself, I'm 5'8" and am a giant in my circles..lol

Interesting - same thing in a JKU FWIW, and the measurement is 52”. Never really noticed unless getting thrown side to side on the trail.

I would imagine, unlike the Bronco, since a two door Jeep uses the same door, it would have the same B pillar placement as well. So there is that advantage for a two door Bronco.

More data points from my Jeep JK

B pillar to B pillar on my JK is 52”. Door card to door card pushes that out to 56”

My seat back is in near in line with the B pillar, but when I sit down my shoulder actually falls just ahead of the B pillar.

So that’s all to say:

I have no idea what the Bronco is going to be like, especially for people bigger than me.

;)

So as I've been saying for months, if you want to know the interior size of a Bronco go sit in a Wrangler lol. The Bronco has more headroom and more comfortable seats, but it feels like a Wrangler space wise. My experience is 4 door only.

Has anyone found pics that imply that the 4 door B pillar for some reason could be narrower than the 2 door B pillar? All the shots I am seeing is that you could just fit a finger between the front seats and B pillar (whether that's a 2 door or 4 door).

update here we go. Gap goes from a credit card to an iPhone. Maybe at best the 4 door has a combined 0.75” extra clearance over a 2 door b pillar. Making 51.8” become 52.5”.

The 2-door mockup...
I searched for photos that had the seat pushed back for reference between the two for those that keep asking about the 2-door. This does not seem to be an issue for the 2-door at all.

agree....I don't think the most significant issue is #inches between pillars...rather it seems to be (at least in the pics above) that a seated person in the 2-door will be just AHEAD of the pillar - and a seated person in the 4-door will be right abreast of it.

UPDATE and edited - Looks like we gain another solid inch over the 51.8” benchmark. See photos below. The gap is ever so slightly bigger between the 4 door seat and b pillar. The B pillar on the 4 door must be a little bit bowed.

We have confirmed the 2 door b pillars are in fact 51.8” apart per the drawing and ford dimensions.

Nonetheless putting the exact inch aside, those bigger guys that have raised concerns with the 4 door have to do with the fact that your shoulders are sitting in between the pillars.

So there has been some feedback that the 4 door feels snug. Some discussions around the protruding B pillars. I did some snooping and thought I’d share.

Ford Bronco 4 door Bronco shoulder room, B pillar pinch point 1617652460011

Granted this is a 2 door where the B pillars aren’t problematic since they’re further back. But what do you see here? There’s almost no space between the b pillar and seat is the obvious. What else do you see? The B pillar is align with the rear shoulder dimension. We have that number from Ford! It’s 51.8”. Fords 4 door shoulder room from door panel to door panel is 57.1” but B pillar to B pillar looks to be 51.8”.

And unfortunately the B pillars on the 4 door overlap your shoulders since the b pillars are pretty forward facing. Ie the side of you upper body rests against the b pillar if you’re say 6 ft tall and don’t have the seat forward.

Bere’s my outback

Similar at 52”. But Unfortunately the bronco doesn’t have these cut outs, and the seats are much further back in relation to the b pillar. So I put my seat all the way back in the tracks so I was sitting against the b pillar like I would be in a bronco. Then put a book up against the cut out to mimic what it would feel like.

Ford Bronco 4 door Bronco shoulder room, B pillar pinch point 1617652460011

I’m 6’-0” 210 with a average shoulders. With my elbow on the arm rest holding the wheel, my tricep was within 0.5” of hitting that imaginary bronco b pillar. So that’s what some of the bigger guys are talking about with the b pillars.

hope this helps. If you’re concerned with width I would do the same thing in your current vehicle by putting your seat back to overlap the b pillar and see what 51.8” feels like.

for reference here are some photos of the 4 door. Note the b pillar curves up at the top which doesn’t help. It will clear your shoulders but something to consider.

And here’s the seat all the way back in it’s track so you get a sense of the positioning of the bpillar

I'm measuring my JK B pillar to B pillar: 52.5 inches at the widest point about 5 inches below the top of the backrest. Surprising that it would be wider.

I'm curious if you've sat in a wrangler and if so, did you have similar thoughts? I'm 6'2, 230 and also fairly broad shouldered. the Jeep is a little tight, but I like it. It seems right to me.
